Summary: This study evaluated whether an acute vulvar ulcer that developed after the COVID-19 vaccine administration is an adverse effect of the vaccine. The study identified 14 patients, most of whom had received the BNT162b2 vaccine. The ulcers eventually healed in most cases, supporting the notion that a vulvar ulcer is an adverse event of the COVID-19 vaccines.

Summary: This study analyzed the FAERS database to explore medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) cases reported from 2010 to 2021. It identified previously unreported drugs associated with ONJ and described the cases and patient characteristics over different time periods. Newly identified drugs included lenalidomide, corticosteroids, docetaxel, and paclitaxel.

Summary: The paper briefly introduces the concept of reconstructing behavior based on fossils and describes new fossilized cases of aggregations found in Cretaceous Myanmar amber. The findings come from different lineages of Insecta and demonstrate various levels of aggregation behavior, even in atypical social interaction groups. This research provides new insights into the evolution of complex strategies of social behavior.

Summary: The essay delves into two key aspects of McCarthy's first published novel "The Orchard Keeper": the inner world of protagonist Ownby and the symbolism of the government tank. Ownby's journey towards nature and defending his green world at personal cost, as well as the tank's representation of global events, showcase McCarthy's themes of morality and societal struggle in the face of adversity.

Summary: The study found that approximately one in three Danes aged 70 and older were taking statins in 2016. The prevalence of statin use was generally stable in the 70 to 79 age group, but increased in the 80 and older age group. Around 19% of long-term statin users discontinued therapy between 2014 and 2016, with increasing age being the strongest predictor of statin discontinuation.

Summary: Most patients are willing to discuss life expectancy, yet a considerable proportion is not. The study findings reveal significant heterogeneity and variability in preferences for discussing life expectancy, making it challenging to identify clear predictors. Variability in preferences may be influenced by age, disease, and cultural differences, underscoring the importance of clinicians taking individual patient preferences into consideration when initiating discussions about life expectancy.

Summary: Deprescribing is a planned and supervised process of reducing or stopping medication that may be harmful or no longer beneficial. Challenges in deprescribing research include limited evidence, fear among healthcare professionals, and the need for guidance. Various methods such as target trial emulation and active comparator new user design can be applied to strengthen observational studies in deprescribing, but may be more suitable for specific scenarios where randomized controlled trials are less feasible.

Summary: Deprescribing is a relatively new field that aims to address the problem of unnecessary polypharmacy among older adults. Early research in this area has focused on identifying barriers and facilitators, but there is a need for further research that builds on existing knowledge and translates it into practical strategies and tools to impact clinical practice.

Summary: The study aimed to describe the rate of discontinuation and factors associated with discontinuation of statin treatment in the 6 months before death. The findings showed that 64% of patients continued statin treatment, while 36% discontinued it. Factors such as age, comorbidity score, and the purpose of statin use were associated with discontinuation.

Summary: The definition of long-term PPI treatment varied substantially between studies and were seldom rationalized. In a clinical context, the definition may vary depending on the patient's condition. For research purposes, a tailored definition may be necessary depending on the study's objectives. It is recommended to always rationalize the choice of definition.
