Food Security in China: A Brief View of Rice Production in Recent 20 Years

A stakeholder resource-based view of corporate social irresponsibility: Evidence from China

Summary: Based on stakeholder resource-based view, this study explores the value relevance of corporate social irresponsibility (CSI) by considering the bargaining power and interests of stakeholders in the well-being of the firm. The findings indicate that CSI episodes that alienate stakeholders with residual claims result in greater shareholder value destruction, and episodes that alienate stakeholders with high legitimacy claims, high urgency claims, and powerful claims lead to more pronounced underperformance. These findings have important implications for firms making strategic decisions involving multiple stakeholders.

A descriptive study based on the comparison of ChatGPT and evidence-based neurosurgeons

Summary: This study investigates whether ChatGPT can respond in accordance with evidence-based medicine in neurosurgery. The results show that GPT-3.5's ability is comparable to neurosurgeons with low seniority, while GPT-4.0's ability is comparable to neurosurgeons with high seniority. Future upgrades could enhance ChatGPT's performance and abilities.

Network-Based Methods for Approaching Human Pathologies from a Phenotypic Point of View

Evidence-based practice in primary healthcare from the managerial point of view - a national survey

Overlapping land rights and deforestation in Uganda: 20 years of evidence

Summary: The majority of the world's land is managed under customary tenure systems with overlapping claims. Examining a sample of forested land in Uganda, this study finds that mailo land tenure, a system of overlapping rights, has consistently higher deforestation rates compared to private and customary land. After a law was passed in 2010 to protect tenants on mailo land, deforestation rates on land with overlapping rights increased significantly but then began to decrease after 2017, suggesting that securing tenant rights can reduce deforestation.

A review of advances over 20 years on polysaccharide-based polymers applied as enhanced efficiency fertilizers

Summary: Over the past 20 years, there has been significant interest in using polysaccharide-based materials for enhanced efficiency fertilizers (EEFs). These polymers, known for their biodegradability, non-toxicity, water-solubility, swellability, and ease of chemical modification, are well-suited for agricultural applications. This review provides a summary of the advances in polysaccharide-based EEFs, including polymer and co-material selection, production methods, and the necessary chemical and structural considerations. The most commonly used polysaccharides in EEFs are chitosan, starch, and alginate, and the release mechanism is best described by the non-Fickian model, which depends on the relaxation of polymer chains and nutrient diffusion. Designing EEFs with more compact and less porous structures can improve fertilizer retention by preventing immediate contact with surrounding water. The scalability of the material is also determined by the preparation methods.

Summary: The diagnostic performances of five automated anti-SARS-CoV-2 immunoassays were evaluated in this study, with Euroimmun and both Roche assays performing equally well in high pre-test probability settings. A sequential strategy combining anti-S and anti-N assays provided optimal trade-off between diagnostic performances and operational considerations in lower prevalence settings.

Adverse effects of remdesivir, hydroxychloroquine and lopinavir/ritonavir when used for COVID-19: systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised trials

Summary: Through the analysis of 16 randomized trials, it was found that Remdesivir may not have an important effect on the risk of acute kidney injury and cognitive dysfunction/delirium. Hydroxychloroquine may increase the risks of cardiac toxicity, cognitive dysfunction/delirium, diarrhea, and nausea/vomiting. Lopinavir/ritonavir may increase the risks of diarrhea and nausea/vomiting.
