Summary: Stable isotope tracers are commonly used with gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry for enzyme activity and metabolic pathway studies. In this research, three commercially available instruments were used to analyze samples from a stable isotope labeling study on Rothia mucilaginosa metabolism. The study found that all three GC-MS instruments can be used for stable isotope tracing studies, with high-resolution GC-QTOF MS offering additional capabilities in identifying the chemical structures of unknown compounds.

Summary: In this study, the metabolism of celastrol in vivo and in vitro was comprehensively characterized using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with hybrid triple quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry. A total of 43 metabolites were identified and characterized, and it was found that the biotransformation capacity of the intestinal tract exceeded that of the liver. These findings provide a basis for understanding the pharmacological mechanisms of celastrol and have potential implications for clinical applications.

Summary: In this study, a lipidomic strategy was used to investigate the lipidomic patterns of high-fat diet-induced hyperlipidemic hamsters when treated with Polygonum cuspidatum. The results showed that Polygonum cuspidatum improved the lipidomic profile of hyperlipidemia. A total of 65 differential lipids related to the hypolipidemic effect of Polygonum cuspidatum were screened out and identified.

Summary: Datura species are known for their high concentration of tropane alkaloids, which can lead to poisoning when accidentally mixed with edible crops. Testing on frozen spinach and spinach-based infant food products found that some samples had levels close to the maximum limits set by the European Union. This highlights the global concern over the presence of these compounds in various commodities.

Summary: A method using UPLC-Q-TOF-MS was developed for simultaneous determination of 19 kinds of chlorophenols in fish samples. The samples were pretreated with the QuEChERS method, and the UPLC-Q-TOF-MS with atmospheric pressure chemical ionization was used for on-machine detection. The method showed good linearity, low detection limits, and high recoveries, making it significant for controlling residual phenolic compounds in aquatic products.

Summary: A workflow for comprehensive semi-polar metabolite profiling was developed and validated using liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization ion mobility quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry. This workflow has the capability to distinguish different cultivars of Hydrangea macrophylla ssp. serrata and obtain a list of metabolites responsible for the differentiation. Suspect screening of phenyldihydroisocoumarins provides valuable information for the biosynthesis of phyllodulcin.

Summary: Milk is a rich source of lipids, and LC-MS is the predominant technique for lipid identification and quantification. However, no standard methods are currently available for the quantification of milk phospholipids. This study aims to examine the factors influencing the quantification outcome of bovine milk phospholipids and discuss the pros and cons of current LC-MS methods.
