Summary: This study evaluates the analgesic efficacy of nefopam and its related outcomes after primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The results show that nefopam significantly reduces pain scores at rest within the first 6 hours postoperatively and decreases morphine consumption 48 hours postoperatively. However, there were no significant differences in pain scores at other timepoints and during motion.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the dose-dependent effects of blackcurrant supplementation on preventing bone loss in adult women. The results showed that blackcurrant supplementation decreased the loss of whole-body bone mineral density and increased the marker of bone formation, P1NP. Further studies with larger samples and different skeletal conditions are needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: This study investigated the effectiveness of a nonviable probiotic lysate (BL) in the treatment of IBS and found that BL was not effective for all IBS subtypes, but may offer a treatment option for IBS-D which needs further verification through adequately powered drug trials.

Summary: The study found that tetrodotoxin (TTX) may have potential efficacy in treating chemotherapy-induced neuropathic pain (CINP). Although there was no significant difference in average Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS) scores, the 30 μg twice daily TTX cohort showed significant differences from the placebo group in some secondary quality of life (QOL) indicators. Adverse events were mostly mild to moderate, with oral paresthesia and hypoesthesia being the most common.

Summary: This study used a closed-loop brain-computer interface (BCI) to treat chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). The results showed significant symptom reduction and improvements in the BCI and placebo control (PLC) groups, with the BCI group having larger effect size differences from the waitlist control group. These findings suggest that BCI is a promising treatment for CIPN and may have longer lasting effects.

Summary: This article describes a phase III study aimed at evaluating the efficacy of oral gabapentin in preventing paclitaxel-induced peripheral neuropathy. A total of 137 patients receiving paclitaxel will be randomly allocated to receive either oral gabapentin or placebo, and the occurrence of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy will be observed. The study results will contribute to finding an effective strategy for preventing peripheral neuropathy.

Summary: This study suggests that the use of nabiximols is likely safe in stroke patients, but no significant improvement in spasticity was observed. This may be due to the low pain levels in the recruited patients or different spasticity mechanisms between post-stroke and multiple sclerosis patients.
