Summary: This systematic review provides an overview of cross-sectional studies on health literacy among university students and identifies possible determinants related to health literacy. The majority of studies included in the review show lower health literacy scores among university students compared to reference samples. Various factors such as age, gender, number of semesters, course of studies, parental education, and socioeconomic background influence the health literacy of students. Universities should aim to offer health literacy courses tailored to the specific needs and characteristics of different student subgroups.

Summary: This study presents the first national-level report on the state of women's preconception health in England. It found that certain preconception health issues, such as smoking, lack of folic acid supplementation, and previous pregnancy loss, have a high prevalence among women in England. Inequalities in these health issues were observed based on age, ethnicity, and area-based deprivation level. The study suggests the need for improved strategies to address women's preconception health and reduce socio-demographic inequalities.

Summary: This study examined the factors influencing the deterioration and severe deterioration of oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) among preschoolers and their families. It found that extensive tooth decay and failure to undergo recommended dental treatment were associated with worsening OHRQoL over a three-year period. An increase in the number of children in the household was also linked to severe worsening of OHRQoL. These findings highlight the importance of early dental care and maintaining good oral health in preschool-aged children.

Summary: This study examines the relationships between socio-economic status, psychosocial factors, health-related behaviors and the incidence of dental caries among 12-year-old schoolchildren living in deprived communities in Manaus, Brazil. The findings suggest that sugar consumption and sedentary behavior directly predict the incidence of dental caries. Higher socio-economic status is associated with lower sugar consumption and higher sedentary behavior. Higher social support directly predicts lower sugar consumption. Lower socio-economic status and lower social support indirectly predict dental caries incidence through sugar consumption and sedentary behavior.
