The new lichen species Syncesia indica is described from southern India and is characterized by stromatoid ascomata, 3-septate small ascospores, and presence of protocetraric acid and traces of roccellic acid. The new taxon grows on tree trunk in evergreen forest in Shradighat regions of Karnataka. A key of all species included in the genus is provided.
