Summary: This study aimed to assess postoperative outcomes and validate the simple endoscopic score to predict Crohn's disease (CD) patients' disease-related outcomes. The findings showed that patients with colon-dominant disease had a higher risk of postoperative clinical recurrence, and SES-CD was effective in predicting postoperative clinical recurrence in CD patients.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the indications for repeated surgeries in Crohn's disease and identified anastomotic lesions as the most common site of recurrence after surgery. The presence of perforating CD was found to be a predictor of recurrence. These findings are important for understanding the progression of CD after surgery and guiding postoperative treatment.

Summary: Few patients with CD who underwent fecal diversion and retained excluded rectums were able to achieve successful reanastomosis in the long-term follow-up. A significant proportion of patients remained symptomatic even with retained rectums.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of biologic agents in Crohn's disease complicated with internal fistulizing disease. It found that biologic therapy is beneficial for approximately three-quarters of patients, achieving a fistula closure rate of 24%, but around one-third of patients still require surgery. Patient- and lesion-related factors can identify patients who will obtain more benefit from these drugs.

Summary: This study evaluated different anastomotic techniques used in ileocaecal resection for primary CD patients in Italy. The most common anastomotic configuration was side to side, and stapled techniques were preferred over hand-sewn. Postoperative morbidity and anastomotic leak were not affected by anastomotic technique and configuration, but were associated with certain patient factors like ASA grade >=3 and disease distribution.

Summary: A 38-year-old female patient with Crohn's disease presenting with chronic perforation and complex fistulas achieved improvement after receiving surgical resection and vedolizumab treatment. This case highlights the effectiveness of vedolizumab combined with stool diversion in treating such complicated cases.

Summary: This study investigated the outcomes and temporal trends of patients with Crohn's disease complicated by enterocutaneous fistulae. The results showed that most patients underwent surgery and had a high closure rate, with low recurrence. Spontaneous and low-output fistulae were associated with higher closure rates, and medical therapy with biologics improved closure rates.

Summary: This study compared the long-term outcomes of primary ileocecal resection (ICR) and anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF) therapy in patients with ileocecal Crohn's disease (CD). The results showed that the risk of the composite outcome was 33% lower with ICR compared to anti-TNF therapy. ICR was also associated with a reduced risk of systemic corticosteroid exposure and CD-related surgery.

Summary: This study evaluates surgical outcomes and survival following multiple pelvic exenterations for recurrent pelvic malignancy. The results demonstrate that repeat exenteration is associated with increased complications and length of stay, reduced likelihood of achieving R0 margin, and does not provide a survival advantage compared to single exenteration. Repeat exenteration for recurrent pelvic malignancy may have questionable therapeutic value.

Summary: The aim of this study was to determine the risk and factors associated with further surgery after the first operation for Crohn's disease. The study found that about 16% of patients required further surgery after the first operation, and factors such as older age, laparoscopic surgery, and elective surgery were associated with a reduced risk of further surgery within 5 years. On the other hand, factors such as prior surgery for perianal disease, extraintestinal manifestations, and initial surgery in a high-volume center were associated with an increased risk of further surgery within 5 years.

Summary: This study found that the prevalence of opioid use disorder among cardiac surgical patients has significantly increased over the past decade. While the presence of OUD was not associated with increased mortality during the index hospitalization, it was predictive of 30-day readmission. Increased focus on predischarge interventions and care coordination may help improve outcomes in this population.

Summary: This study investigated predictors for disease recurrence in long-term follow-up of Crohn's disease patients after surgery. The results indicate that age at diagnosis, penetrating disease behavior, intra-abdominal abscess, and concomitant fistula and abscess are risk factors for CD recurrence after surgery.

Summary: This study observed a remarkable geographical heterogeneity in the utilization of different treatments and outcomes for Crohn's disease patients in Catalonia. There was variability in the use of systemic corticosteroids, non-biological and biological immunosuppressant treatments, as well as hospitalization and surgical intervention rates across different geographical areas.

Summary: This study showed that the rate of perianal relapse in patients with perianal Crohn's disease after surgical remission was significantly reduced with Infliximab therapy compared to nonbiological treatment. However, around 40% of patients using Infliximab still experienced perianal relapse at 5 years, with factors such as discontinuation of IFX therapy, a penetrating phenotype, or a complex perianal fistula associated with increased relapse rate.
