Summary: MRONJ is a condition that is becoming more common in dental and maxillofacial practice, requiring comprehensive, accessible, and up-to-date data. Besides bisphosphonates, angiogenesis inhibitors and anti-RANKL monoclonal antibodies can also increase the risk of the disease. Thorough physical examination, periodic correction of dental prostheses, and adequate preparation for oral procedures can prevent or minimize the risk of MRONJ.

Summary: Osteonecrosis of the jaw is a severe clinical condition characterized by exposed bone that does not heal over time. Diagnosis is primarily clinical with imaging feedback playing a confirmatory role. Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw, particularly induced by bisphosphonates, has been widely discussed, but the exact mechanism remains debatable.

Summary: Surgical resection showed higher complete healing cases and statistically significant difference in recurrence rate compared to debridement. Debridement is an unfavorable prognostic factor when compared to surgical resection, with a 4.9 times higher risk of recurrence. Quality of life mean values improved significantly in the surgical resection group and slightly in the debridement group.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the preventive effect of ozonated oil on the development of MRONJ-like lesions at tooth extraction sites in rats receiving zoledronic acid treatment. While there was no statistically significant difference in the average area of vital and necrotic bone between the groups, ozonated oil appeared to reduce osteonecrosis development. Further research is needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: Tooth extraction is not a risk factor for medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) in cancer patients receiving bone-modifying agents (BMAs), but rather helps reduce the risk of MRONJ development. Infected teeth and longer duration of BMA administration are independent risk factors for MRONJ.

Summary: Antiresorption drugs like bisphosphonates and monoclonal antibodies are used in the treatment of osteoporosis and other bone-related diseases. These drugs have been associated with cases of osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ). Risk factors include extraction procedures in oral surgery, particularly in the mandible and maxilla. A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to determine if there is a greater risk of MRONJ in male or female subjects and to assess the involvement of osteonecrosis in different extraction sites. After analyzing 24 studies, the results showed a trend of higher risk in males and in the posterior mandibular sector, but further studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: This study used 3D photography to capture the head shapes of male trigonocephaly patients before surgery, after surgery, and during follow-up. The results showed that after standardized frontoorbital remodelling (FOR) surgery, the head shape of patients was similar to that of the healthy control cohort. Therefore, corrective surgery should focus on volume expansion and correction of the deformity. Additionally, 3D photogrammetry is a valuable alternative to computed tomography scans, reducing radiation exposure to the brain.

Summary: Prebent reconstruction plates on 3D printed models can improve the accuracy of condylar position after mandibular resection. However, the recent changes in the European Medical Device Regulation affect the use of 3D printing in hospitals, raising the need for discussion on its legitimization. This retrospective observational case-control study found that prefabricated osteosynthesis significantly reduced rotational deviations in the coronal and sagittal planes, with Jewer class-L defects benefiting more.

Summary: Recent decades have witnessed significant advancements in orthognathic surgery techniques and the application of new osteosynthesis methods. Virtual 3D planning has become a routine practice in clinics, offering higher accuracy compared to conventional planning, particularly for patients with asymmetry. Soft tissue simulation has greatly influenced the planning process and improved communication between practitioners and patients. The trend is shifting towards orthofacial surgery, emphasizing facial harmony as well as function. The use of patient-specific implants enables precise implementation of the 3D plan without the need for positioning splints. However, close cooperation between orthodontists and surgeons remains crucial for successful treatment.
