Summary: This study evaluated the role of minor salivary gland biopsy histology in diagnosing primary SS-associated non-Hodgkin B-cell lymphoma. The results showed that mSGB histology enabled NHL diagnosis in half of the patients with suspected NHL, with 95.8% of cases identified as MALT lymphomas.

Summary: Background: Sarcoidosis is a systemic inflammatory disease characterized by non-caseating granulomas. In addition to the lungs, it commonly affects the cervical lymph nodes and salivary glands. This study aimed to analyze the long-term progression of glandular symptoms and assess salivary gland changes using sonography. Results showed that patients with initial symptoms in the salivary gland area tended to have dry mouth and eyes, but these symptoms resolved over time, and permanent abnormalities in the salivary glands were only observed in individual cases.

Summary: The diagnosis of neurosarcoidosis is challenging and requires histological examination of the nervous system. To confirm the diagnosis, other systemic manifestations are investigated. Minor salivary gland biopsy (MSGB) is often performed as a minimally invasive method. The study aimed to assess its performance for diagnosing neurosarcoidosis.

Summary: This retrospective-multicenter study includes data from 37 medical oncology clinics from different regions of Turkey, and a total of 443 salivary gland cancers were analyzed. The study shows that distant metastasis is more common in major salivary gland cancers, while locoregional recurrence is more common in minor salivary gland cancers. Epidemiological information, metastasis and recurrence patterns, treatment modalities, and survival analysis of the patients over 20 years of follow-up are presented in this study.

Summary: This study compared the histomorphological changes and clinical findings in patients with pathologically confirmed Sjogren's syndrome and those with negative histology. It found that only 31.8% of Sjogren's histologies showed acinar loss, suggesting that decreased saliva production may be due to immune-mediated hypofunction rather than direct acinar damage. This is the first systemic study in Hungary to investigate the correlation between pathological alterations and clinical findings.

Summary: This study demonstrates that adding immunohistochemical staining with CD45, CD3, and CD20 to labial minor salivary gland biopsies can improve the diagnostic accuracy for Sjogren's syndrome, especially when the hematoxylin and eosin staining result is inconclusive. Patients without SjS showed no significant lymphocyte infiltrate in their biopsies.

Summary: This study analyzed the findings of labial minor salivary gland biopsy (MSGB) in a large sicca cohort and examined their associations with Sjogren's syndrome (SS)-associated markers, phenotypic characteristics, and systemic manifestations. The study also explored the ability of MSGB to identify SS patients among those with pre-diagnosed fibromyalgia (FM). The results showed that MSGB plays a key role in the classification and diagnosis of SS and provides important information about SS phenotype and systemic manifestations. Furthermore, MSGB can help differentiate FM patients from subclinical SS patients with primarily chronic pain.

Summary: This study showed good concordance between rheumatologists and pathologists in interpreting MSGB results for SS diagnosis. There was a strong association between interstitial plasmocytes and SS, indicating the potential predictive value of specific histological findings for the development of SS. MSGB is an essential tool for diagnosing SS despite factors that may impact its reproducibility.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the clinical diagnostic utility of repeated minor salivary gland biopsy (MSGB) in patients with suspicion of Sjogren's syndrome (SS). The results showed low concordance between the two MSGBs, and performing a second MSGB only changed the initial diagnosis in a minority of patients, particularly when there were significant changes in clinical manifestations.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and biopsy for clinical diagnosis of minor salivary gland tumors (MSGTs). Results showed that biopsy was more accurate than FNAC in diagnosing MSGTs, with mucoepidermoid carcinoma being the most common malignant tumor and pleomorphic adenomas being the most common benign tumor.

Summary: The appraisal of HLA-A29 birdshot retinochoroiditis (BRC) has improved through advances in investigational methods, leading to better understanding and management of the disease. Essential factors for better appraisal and understanding include new immunopathological hypotheses, the importance of HLA testing, crucial imaging modalities, early diagnostic criteria, and the need for early aggressive treatment with multiple immunosuppressive agents.

Summary: This article describes the ocular phenotype associated with the CBL gene mutation and reviews the current literature. Longitudinal follow-up of five cases with unexplained fundus lesions showed ophthalmological signs and damage to the optic nerve head. Whole-exome sequencing revealed mutations in the CBL gene in all five cases. Detailed description and genetic analysis using whole-exome sequencing could be beneficial for understanding the ocular phenotype associated with the CBL gene mutation.

Summary: A unique missense variant in ALPK1 gene was suggested as a candidate for the autosomal dominant multi-systemic disorder ROSAH syndrome based on long-term ophthalmological changes and associated systemic signs in five patients from two unrelated families. Observational longitudinal follow-up study revealed extensive optic nerve swelling, early macular oedema, and vascular leakage as the main ophthalmological phenotype. Whole-Genome Sequencing identified the heterozygous missense variant c.710C>T; p.(Thr237Met) in ALPK1 in all patients, suggesting this variant as a potential target for gene correction therapy.
