Cancer- and noncancer-specific cumulative incidence of death after exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls and dioxins: A competing risk analysis among Yusho patients

Daisuke Onozuka, Yuko Nakamura, Gaku Tsuji, Masutaka Furue

Summary: The study found that male Yusho patients have a significantly higher risk of cumulative incidence of cancer-specific mortality than female Yusho patients, while there is no gender difference in non-cancer mortality. These results may be useful in providing more accurate information on cancer prognosis and helping determine more appropriate disease management for Yusho patients.

Patients With LDLR and PCSK9 Gene Variants Experienced Higher Incidence of Cardiovascular Outcomes in Heterozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia

Takahito Doi, Mika Hori, Mariko Harada-Shiba, Yu Kataoka, Daisuke Onozuka, Kunihiro Nishimura, Ryo Nishikawa, Kosuke Tsuda, Masatsune Ogura, Cheol Son, Yoshihiro Miyamoto, Teruo Noguchi, Hiroaki Shimokawa, Satoshi Yasuda

Summary: Patients with both LDLR and PCSK9 gene variants have higher levels of LDL cholesterol and increased risk of cardiovascular events, particularly nonfatal myocardial infarction. These patients require more intensive antiatherosclerotic management.

Souza Lima, Nicola Wagner, Paraskevi Xepapadaki, Xiaoyang Xue, Zuotao Zhao, Dorothea Terhorst-Molawi, Marcus Maurer

Summary: Cold urticaria (ColdU) can lead to wheals or angioedema in response to cold exposure, and may be associated with cold-induced anaphylaxis (ColdA). The research found that ColdA can be triggered by a variety of factors, including immersion in cold water and exposure to cold air. Patients with concomitant chronic spontaneous urticaria have a lower risk of ColdA in ColdU.

Summary: The overall all-cause mortality in Japan during the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 decreased compared to historical baseline, with reduced deaths observed for both sexes and all age groups except those aged. Further evaluation of cause-specific excess mortality is needed.

Endothelial Natriuretic Peptide Receptor 1 Play Crucial Role for Acute and Chronic Blood Pressure Regulation by Atrial Natriuretic Peptide

Takeshi Tokudome, Kentaro Otani, Yuanjie Mao, Lars Jorn Jensen, Yuji Arai, Takahiro Miyazaki, Takashi Sonobe, James T. Pearson, Tsukasa Osaki, Naoto Minamino, Junji Ishida, Akiyoshi Fukamizu, Hayato Kawakami, Daisuke Onozuka, Kunihiro Nishimura, Mikiya Miyazato, Hirohito Nishimura

Summary: This study revealed the crucial role of vascular endothelial NPR1 in ANP-mediated blood pressure regulation. ANP lowers blood pressure by activating potassium channels and modulating G-protein signaling pathways in endothelial cells. Furthermore, ANP's blood pressure regulation depends on RGS2 in the acute phase but is independent of RGS2 in the chronic phase.

Increased expression of human herpes virus 6 receptor CD134/OX40 in skin lesions of patients with drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome/drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms

Eun Seon Lee, Yuji Kiuchi, Naoko Inomata, Hirohiko Sueki

Summary: This study found that the frequency of CD134(+) CD4 T cells in skin lesions of patients with drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome (DIHS)/drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) was significantly increased and correlated with disease severity. These findings suggest that human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) may be involved in the progression and pathophysiology of DIHS/DRESS.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the 6-year trends in clinical outcomes of SAH patients who underwent clipping or coiling, and the influence of CSC capabilities on patient outcomes. The results showed a decrease in in-hospital mortality and stable proportion of poor functional outcomes. The use of coiling and multidisciplinary care for untreated patients increased. Higher CSC scores were associated with increased use of coiling but not with short-term patient outcomes.

Early vascular responses to abluminal biodegradable polymer-coated versus circumferential durable polymer- coated newer-generation drug-eluting stents in humans: a pathological study

Yasuhito Kawagoe, Fumiyuki Otsuka, Daisuke Onozuka, Hatsue Ishibashi-Ueda, Yoshihiko Ikeda, Keiko Ohta-Ogo, Manabu Matsumoto, Kisaki Amemiya, Yasuhide Asaumi, Yu Kataoka, Kunihiro Nishimura, Yoshihiro Miyamoto, Teruo Noguchi, Aloke V. Finn, Renu Virmani, Kinta Hatakeyama, Satoshi Yasuda

Summary: This study evaluated the early pathologic responses to two different types of drug-eluting stents in human autopsy cases. The results showed that the stent with a biodegradable polymer coating had better coverage compared to the stent with a durable polymer coating. However, vessel healing was still suboptimal in both stents at 30 days.
