Summary: This Swedish study investigated the prevalence and characteristics of atopic dermatitis (AD) among young adults. The results showed that AD is a common disease among young adults, and even though more females than males have AD at 24 years, adult onset of AD seems to be equally prevalent among both sexes in young adulthood.

Summary: There is limited data on chronic hand eczema and its severity in the general population. This cross-sectional study investigated the prevalence and severity of hand eczema in the Dutch population through a questionnaire. The results showed that the lifetime prevalence of hand eczema was 15.0%, the 1-year prevalence was 7.3%, and the self-reported physician-diagnosed prevalence was 6.1%. The study also found that the majority of subjects with hand eczema had almost clear symptoms at their worst, and the prevalence of severe to very severe hand eczema in the general population was 1.9%. The study suggests that future epidemiological research should include data on chronic hand eczema and its severity to gain a better understanding of the burden of hand eczema.

Summary: Hand eczema (HE) is highly prevalent in the general population, with females being 1.5-2 times more likely to be affected than males. Over one third of patients suffer from moderate to severe disease, and around one third have a history of atopic dermatitis.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of hand eczema in the Polish female population and its association with disinfectant usage during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study found that hand eczema was more prevalent in younger adults, and increased disinfectant usage exacerbated the symptoms. Respondents with a dermatological history were more susceptible to new skin symptoms during the pandemic, and quality of life was significantly impacted.

Summary: Diagnosing atopic dermatitis (AD) in infants is challenging, the study found that using the UK Working Party (UKWP) and Hanifin and Rajka (H&R) criteria can determine the incidence and persistence of eczema and AD. The odds of AD were lower when eczema first appeared at 6 or 12 months, and higher in infants with eczema at multiple visits.

Summary: This study describes the longitudinal care pathways of patients with atopic dermatitis (AD), including healthcare management, treatment patterns, and disease progression. The results show that healthcare contacts and AD treatments are concentrated in the year when managed AD care is initiated and decrease significantly thereafter. This suggests that patients with AD may be undertreated and monitored infrequently.

Summary: This study explored the prevalence, incidence, correlations, and temporal trends of osteoarthritis (OA) in Israel from 2013 to 2018. It found that OA prevalence was higher in the Southern and Northern peripheral districts, and the incidence increased over time. Further population-based studies in the Middle East are needed to identify modifiable risk factors for timely preventive and therapeutic interventions in OA.

Summary: Hairdressers are commonly affected by hand eczema due to hazardous exposure in the work environment. The prevalence of hand eczema is high among hairdressers, and occupational exposures play a major role. The incidence of atopic dermatitis is comparable to the general population. Preventive measures are needed to address hand eczema in hairdressers.

Summary: The study found significant variation in the patterns of eczema, wheeze, and rhinitis morbidity, with multimorbidity being rare but significantly overrepresented. Infantile eczema was associated with subsequent multimorbidity, but the majority of children with eczema did not progress to any comorbidities.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the prevalence and quality of life impact of head/face/neck/hand (HFNH) involvement in patients with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis. The results showed that patients with HFNH involvement had worse quality of life and higher disease severity compared to those without HFNH involvement. Therefore, detailed assessments of specific areas affected by atopic dermatitis are needed for personalized treatment.

Summary: Despite the growing popularity of e-cigarettes, limited epidemiological studies have been conducted to investigate their impact on respiratory health in young adults. This study found that e-cigarette use was more common in male smokers and was associated with an increased risk of respiratory symptoms and overweight/obesity. However, the small number of exclusive e-cigarette users hindered firm conclusions.

Summary: The widespread use of skin sensitizing preservatives is well-known, but their use in non-cosmetic products is less recognized. This study reviewed EU legislations and analyzed data trends to find that the use of preservatives has significantly increased, posing a risk to health. Summary: This study investigated the association between fibre intake and asthma, allergic rhinitis, and IgE sensitization. The results showed that higher fibre intake in childhood may be inversely associated with allergic rhinitis and sensitization to specific allergens up to adulthood. However, avoiding food triggers in allergic rhinitis patients may contribute to these protective associations.

Summary: In our study, we demonstrate that cobalt nanoparticles (CoNPs) have the potential to cause elicitation responses in cobalt sensitized individuals, manifesting in ACD lesions upon patch testing. Analysis of selected gene expression markers reveal identical immunological involvement in response to CoNP and CoCl2, suggesting that cobalt may cause elicitation reactions irrespective of its form at exposure. Finally, our results suggest that when exposed to CoNP, lower doses of Co are needed to elicit the same immunological response compared to when testing with CoCl2.
