Summary: The efficacy of NB-UVB phototherapy in improving COVID-19 outcomes was assessed in high-risk hospitalized patients in a double-blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled trial. The results showed that NB-UVB phototherapy was safe and may have the potential to improve COVID-19 outcomes. Further continuation of the trial is warranted.

Summary: Narrowband-ultraviolet B has been found to be more effective than broadband-ultraviolet B in treating pruritic skin diseases. While broadband-ultraviolet B is recommended for chronic pruritus, narrowband-ultraviolet B has also shown efficacy in reducing itchiness.

Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of tofacitinib combined with narrowband ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) phototherapy for refractory nonsegmental vitiligo. The results showed that the combination group had significantly higher levels of repigmentation and response rate compared to the control group. Tofacitinib combined with NB-UVB phototherapy may be an effective and safe alternative treatment for refractory vitiligo.

Summary: An increasing number of patients referred to the Scottish Photobiology Service were later diagnosed with actinic folliculitis (AF) and had positive phototesting results. The use of prophylactic narrowband ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) phototherapy for AF was successful in preventing rash induction in patients.

Summary: Combination therapy with narrowband ultraviolet B, fractional carbon dioxide laser, and topical bimatoprost 0.01% showed significant advantages in inducing repigmentation and improving vitiligo surface area in non-facial vitiligo patients, compared to dual therapy with NB-UVB and fractional CO2 laser.

Summary: Combination therapy with oral minocycline does not enhance the efficacy of narrowband ultraviolet B (NBUVB) phototherapy in treating generalized vitiligo, and there is a risk of drug-induced skin hyperpigmentation.

Summary: For localized vitiligo, combination treatment with home-based handheld NB-UVB plus TCS is more effective than TCS alone, but successful in only around one-quarter of participants; participants with higher adherence during treatment were more likely to achieve treatment success, but the effects were lost once treatment stopped; combination treatment was relatively safe and well tolerated.

Summary: Long-term NB-UVB phototherapy may decrease the risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events in patients with vitiligo. The study findings suggest that the risk of cardiovascular or cerebrovascular events was significantly lower in the phototherapy group compared with the no phototherapy group.

Summary: This study compared the cost-effectiveness of home phototherapy and hospital phototherapy for treating hyperbilirubinemia in neonates more than 36 weeks. Results showed that home phototherapy is as effective as hospital phototherapy and has a significantly lower cost per patient. Sensitivity analysis also confirmed the robustness of the findings. Therefore, home phototherapy is a cost-effective alternative to hospital treatment for neonates with hyperbilirubinemia.

Summary: Magnolol, a polyphenolic compound, has been shown to have therapeutic effects in dermatological processes, but its application in psoriasis research is limited. The study demonstrated that downregulation of IL-23 by magnolol may contribute to improvement in barrier function in psoriatic skin models.

Summary: This study aimed to explore whether Asian hemodialysis patients can effectively produce an immune response after being vaccinated with the first dose of the ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccine. The results showed that the seropositive rate in hemodialysis patients was low, and most had low antibody titers after the first dose of the vaccine. Younger age, better dialysis adequacy, and higher albumin levels were associated with seropositivity.

Summary: The prevalence of CKD was 13 center dot 7% among Belizeans aged 20-55 years. The study identified older age, female sex, Mestizo/Hispanic ethnicity, diabetes, hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia, and obesity as independent risk factors for CKD. This study provides important epidemiological information for Central America and highlights the need for targeted case management and surveillance programs to address the burden of CKD.
