Summary: This study explores the association between the food environment and food and drink purchasing for at-home and out-of-home consumption. The results indicate limited evidence for the impact of the food environment on household food and drink purchasing, although there is some association between exposure to out-of-home outlets and purchases of ultra-processed foods. However, region-specific effects regarding alcohol purchasing highlight the importance of geographical context for research and policy.

Summary: Nowadays, essential oils (EOs) are widely used in various industries such as food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and animal feed. They are seen as promising alternatives to synthetic substances due to increasing demand for natural products. This review discusses extraction techniques for isolating EOs from aromatic plants, their chemical constitution, and applications in food systems. Encapsulation techniques are explored to preserve the biological activities of EOs and minimize their effects on food sensory qualities. Additionally, the review highlights the importance of considering the possible toxicity of EOs and provides information on EU legislation, safety assessment, and sensory evaluation.

Summary: Despite a temporary increase in the purchase of local food during the COVID-19 pandemic, this study indicates that it may not develop into a long-term habit. The availability of local food is found to be the main driver of consumers' intention to buy, particularly among those who have shifted their purchasing habits. Trust in local food producers also significantly influences consumers' perceptions of local food attributes.

Summary: Over the past decade, food and beverage supply chain management has become a critical component of global operations strategy. The expansion of global food and beverage industries has led to challenges in coordinating operations across countries, particularly in terms of financial support for multi-layered supply chain networks. Despite limited literature on artificial intelligence in FDIs, the study explores AI theory in supply chain networks and alternative supply chain financing, proposing a new conceptual framework based on theoretical contributions identified through literature. The research indicates that AI-driven supply chain networks may provide a sustainable financing stream for the food and beverage supply chain.

Summary: Previous studies have shown that labels such as organic or local may increase the perceived healthiness, attractiveness, and taste evaluation of healthy food products, thus increasing their likelihood of being purchased. This study aimed to investigate whether labeling vegetable items could promote the consumption of at least one vegetable dish among students in a university canteen. The results suggested that the labels organic, local, and organic & local were not strongly associated with ordering at least one vegetable plate.

Summary: A study conducted in New York State during the summer and fall of 2020 found a relationship between food access worries, food assistance use, and reported food insecurity during COVID-19, particularly with factors such as SNAP use, food assistance and delivery as food sources, and self-reported Hispanic ethnicity. Future research is needed to assess the ongoing impacts of the pandemic on food access and insecurity, especially among underserved groups. Measures such as providing additional food funding and improving food access can help alleviate barriers to accessing enough healthy food during this time.

Summary: Reducing food loss and waste is an important strategy to minimize the environmental impact of the food supply chain. This study measured food loss and identified its drivers for one of New Zealand's largest tomato growers. The results showed that commercial factors such as market price and competitor activity were the main drivers of food loss, and collaboration throughout the supply chain would be necessary to address this issue.
