Summary: The study validated the sensitivity and specificity of the updated BIG in predicting the need for interhospital transfer in patients with complicated mild traumatic brain injury. The results showed that patients in the uBIG-1 group could be safely managed at their initial center without the need for transfer.

Summary: This study analyzed the incidence, medical care seeking behaviors, and expenditures related to pediatric traumatic brain injury (TBI) using nationally representative data in the United States. The results showed that race/ethnicity was a significant factor associated with both medical care seeking behavior and total expenditures.

Summary: For traumatic brain injury (TBI), medical cannabis may have neuroprotective and psychotherapeutic properties, but there is currently a lack of high-quality research. Patients are using medical and recreational cannabis to treat symptoms, highlighting inconsistencies with public policy and empirical evidence.

Summary: Studies have shown that medical marijuana has the potential to aid in the recovery from TBI by modulating the endocannabinoid system, reducing inflammation, and secondary injury. However, further research is needed to fully explore the long-term efficacy and adverse effects of medical marijuana in TBI treatment.

Summary: Through a 24-month follow-up observation of patients with traumatic intracranial hypertension, it was found that surgical treatment can continuously reduce the mortality rate and increase the incidence of vegetative state, severe disability, and moderate disability. Compared with the medical treatment group, patients in the surgical group have a higher probability of improvement in their condition.

Summary: PET has been widely used in the study of traumatic brain injury (TBI) for decades, with recent focus on imaging biomarkers related to TBI and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). This review critically assesses the use of glycolysis, beta-amyloid, and tau protein radiotracers in the context of TBI, weighing their strengths and weaknesses. Despite the ongoing debate, PET remains a powerful modality in diagnosing TBI-related conditions.

Summary: The study shows that men with histories of injecting drug use in Victoria, Australia face social disadvantage and health inequity after release from prison, including high rates of unemployment, homelessness, physical and mental health issues, rapid return to illicit substance use, overdose, receptive syringe sharing, involvement in crime-related activities, and reimprisonment.

Summary: Research shows that people in prison have limited access to health promotion information and treatment support services related to alcohol and other drug (AoD) harms. A qualitative study conducted in a Sydney prison found that participants had not received education on AoD harms or treatment support services during their schooling, and their first treatment episode was typically facilitated through the criminal justice system. These findings highlight the need for proactive screening and referral for AoD use disorders in health services.
