Summary: This study applies the system dynamics approach to understand and analyze the problem of alcohol-impaired driving among adolescents and young adults. The causal loop diagram developed in this study depicts diverse influences on youth impaired driving, such as parents, peers, policies, law enforcement, and the alcohol industry.

Summary: This study found that long-term alcohol consumption and recent binge drinking in young adults may affect age-related epigenetic changes, particularly those related to DNA methylation changes. These findings have important implications for improving dietary habits and promoting healthy aging.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between binge drinking and attention performance in young adults, testing the moderating role of sex and the influence of earlier age of binge drinking onset. The results showed that binge drinking, sex, and age of first binge drinking session did not predict attention impairment, and sex did not moderate the relationship.

Summary: The study revealed a time-varying trend in co-use of alcohol and cannabis in adolescents and young adults, highlighting the need for continuous monitoring. As age increased, the proportion of co-use decreased, frequent binge drinking decreased, and frequent cannabis use slightly increased.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the prevalence of risk drinking in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and found that the prevalence of risk drinking was lower in individuals with ASD compared to those without, but increased with age. Individuals with co-existing attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or learning disorder (LD) were more likely to engage in risk drinking.

Summary: This study evaluates post-hospital care of children and adolescents after mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) through a physician survey. The results show that a significant proportion of general practitioners are not familiar with TBI severity assessment scales and have difficulties assessing the symptoms correctly. Pediatricians demonstrate better knowledge on the treatment and outpatient care of TBI compared to general practitioners.

Summary: This study examines the effects of movement-specific keyboard playing on improving hand function in patients with acquired brain injury (ABI). The results show that keyboard playing can enhance functional independence, key-pressing force, and most hand function tests. Additionally, keyboard playing can motivate young patients with ABI and optimize intervention effects.

Summary: The present study examines the association between cognitions and situational factors with playing drinking games among adolescents and young adults. The study finds that higher willingness, higher descriptive norms, and less familiarity with people are associated with playing drinking games. Furthermore, playing drinking games is associated with consuming more drinks, but not directly associated with experiencing more negative consequences and riding in a vehicle with a driver who had been drinking.

Summary: This study found that perceived stress in youth with bipolar disorder is associated with increased right amygdala activation, which is not significant in typically developing youth. Furthermore, greater amygdala reactivity to acute stress is correlated with quantity and frequency of alcohol use and frequency of cannabis use in bipolar disorder.

Summary: The risk of post-traumatic epilepsy is considerable, with higher risks for focal cerebral injuries and diffuse cerebral injuries compared to mild TBI. The risk of epilepsy after any TBI was 4.0%, significantly higher than the control group's risk of 0.9%. Risk of epilepsy increased with severity of injury.

Summary: This study evaluated the accuracy of administrative health data surveillance case definitions for recurrent traumatic brain injury (rTBI) and estimated the adjusted 1-year rTBI incidence. Results showed an incidence of 4.48 per 100 person-years across all age groups, with higher severity index TBI patients having a significantly higher incidence of rTBI. The study demonstrates the feasibility of conducting accurate surveillance and epidemiological research for rTBI using administrative health data.

Summary: This retrospective study analyzed the injury patterns of severe trauma patients who fell down a flight of stairs, and found that the likelihood of traumatic brain injury and intracranial hemorrhage increased with the number of stairs fallen. There was also a high correlation between staircase falls and alcohol intake. Therefore, it is important to consider the impact of brain injury and alcohol intake in these cases.

Factors such as gender, race, and age had an impact on substance use, and prevention efforts should be focused on the age group of 12-14 years.

Summary: This study used magnetic resonance imaging to examine vocal tract dimensions in four vocal modes from Complete Vocal Technique. The results showed significant differences in vocal tract dimensions between different vocal modes, indicating the importance of vocal tract adjustments in producing these modes. Additionally, differences in vocal tract dimensions were also found between samples sung with different vowels.

Summary: Characterisation of outcomes and costs of haemophilia care in common practice settings is important for evaluating new treatment options and clinical practices. In Finland, adult inhibitor-negative haemophilia patients managed in University Hospitals mainly receive factor replacement therapy, with low annual bleeding rates and costs. Centralising care management to University Hospital Treatment Centres has shown successful outcomes in Finland, with lower treatment costs compared to other high-income European populations.

Summary: The study found that sensitization to aeroallergens in adult populations can change over time, with men being more prone to developing allergies and polysensitization. New sensitization reactions can still occur in middle age and should be considered when managing allergic manifestations in adults, as sensitization is considered the first step in developing clinical allergies.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and clinical characteristics of adult acne at the population level, as well as its association with cardiovascular and metabolic profiles. The results showed that adult acne is common in middle-aged individuals, with slight differences in clinical picture between females and males. Male subjects with acne may have a higher risk of metabolic disturbances, highlighting the need for comprehensive evaluation of adult acne patients.
