Summary: This study aimed to explore the optimal drug dose and duration of adjunctive AMX/MET to FMSRP in periodontitis. Results showed that a high dose of 500/500 mg of AMX/MET had significant and stable improvement on CAL gain and PPD reduction at 6 months. However, there was minimal difference in efficacy among different drug durations, and adverse events risk between the two groups was also minimal.

Summary: This study investigated the association between full-mouth scaling and root planing (FM-SRP) with azithromycin (AZM) and periodontitis and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels in patients with diabetes. The results showed that the FM-SRP group had improved clinical parameters, reduced periodontal pathogens, and significantly lower HbA1c. Inflammatory cytokines were also reduced after treatment and a strong correlation was found between periodontal inflamed surface area (PISA) and HbA1c. The study suggests that FM-SRP with AZM can improve periodontal health and diabetes control in patients with diabetes mellitus.

Summary: C-reactive protein (CRP) or procalcitonin (PCT) alone have limitations in the early detection of infection or inflammation. Interleukin (IL)-6 has been assessed recently, and this study reveals considerable discrepancies among CRP, PCT, and IL-6 levels. Relying solely on CRP tests may lead to misinterpretation.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the levels of inflammatory markers and endothelial function in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients after Q-SRP and FM-SRP treatments. The results showed that FM-SRP led to a significant increase in CRP and a decrease in FMD at Day 1 compared to Q-SRP. The improvement in HbA1c levels at Day 90 was significantly better in the Q-SRP group. Therefore, FM-SRP may have adverse effects on endothelial function and HbA1c levels in diabetes patients.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the pain during and after scaling and root planing (SRP) in patients with periodontitis, and compare the pain in different jaw regions. It also aimed to assess the factors affecting pain during intraseptal anesthesia (ISA) administration, SRP, and post-treatment pain. The pain levels were measured using visual analogue scales (VAS), and the results showed that 80.8% of patients experienced pain during ISA administration. Factors such as pocket depth and clinical attachment level were found to be associated with pain during ISA, SRP, and post-treatment.

Summary: The study found that stage III/IV periodontitis patients showed significant but comparable improvements in periodontal parameters and the number of residual diseased sites at the 12-month re-evaluation regardless of treatment type. This may be attributed to the additional instrumentation received by patients at residual diseased sites in both treatment groups.

Summary: This study evaluated the clinical efficacy of curcumin versus chlorhexidine as adjuncts to scaling and root planing for periodontitis treatment. The results showed that both curcumin and chlorhexidine had similar effects in reducing probing pocket depth, clinical attachment loss, gingival index, and plaque index. However, the quality of evidence was low, and further studies are needed to firmly establish the clinical efficacy of curcumin.

Summary: Inflammatory markers, particularly PCT and IL-6, are strongly associated with signs of systemic hypoperfusion in cardiogenic shock (CS) and predict poor prognosis. High levels of PCT and IL-6 are linked to increased 90-day mortality rates, while CRP levels do not show significant prognostic value.

Summary: During the COVID-19 epidemic in Italy in March and April 2020, dental activities were significantly reduced and limited to urgent treatments. A survey of dental professionals found that a majority of dentists used additional personal protective equipment, although some reported difficulty in obtaining necessary equipment. Following the peak of the epidemic, it is expected that there will be significant changes in dental activities before full restart.

Summary: This study retrospectively evaluated the radiographic signs of MRONJ on panoramic radiography to describe the characteristics of the lesions at different stages of the disease. A weak relationship between radiographic signs and disease stage was observed, with mandibular canal enhancement being associated with the advanced disease stage. The distribution of the different radiographic features was not influenced by the underlying disease treated with antiresorptive drugs. Panoramic radiography appears to be a valid support in the assessment of MRONJ lesions.
