Summary: This study explores the differences in cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk and associated factors among South Asian, Black, and White individuals. The results suggest that adiposity is an important risk factor for CVD regardless of ethnicity. Targeting interventions based on different risk profiles may be the most effective approach to address ethnic inequalities in CVD incidence.

Summary: The aim of this study was to assess CVD risk factors in patients with JIA. IMT, metabolic parameters and health behaviors were evaluated. The study found that CVD risk factors were present in both groups, with more JIA patients having abnormal BMI compared to the control group. Dietary habits were not associated with IMT or other parameters in the JIA group. Only one JIA patient met the criteria for ideal cardiovascular health. The pursuit of ideal cardiovascular health should be given attention in the pediatric population, especially in patients with chronic diseases like JIA. Further studies are needed to apply carotid artery IMT measurement in assessing CVD risk.

Summary: This study aimed to predict lifetime risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD). The results showed that men and women had similar lifetime CVD risk, with the risk declining as age increased. These findings can guide resource allocation and improve public health and preventive services, especially for individuals under the age of 50.

Summary: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women, with differences among racial and ethnic groups due to various factors such as language barriers, discrimination, acculturation, and healthcare access. These factors contribute to a higher prevalence of cardiovascular disease and challenges in diagnosis and treatment. Culturally sensitive education and equitable access to evidence-based preventive care are essential for reducing the disparities.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the association between hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) and long-term cardiovascular disease (CVD) and identify the proportion mediated by established CVD risk factors. The results showed that women with HDP during their first pregnancy had a higher risk of CVD, which was mainly mediated by established CVD risk factors.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the rate and correlates of poor cardiovascular risk factor control among men with prostate cancer. It found that almost all participants had at least one uncontrolled cardiovascular risk factor, with 51% having poor overall risk factor control. Not taking statins, physical frailty, need for blood pressure medication, and age were identified as key factors associated with poor overall risk factor control.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of education differences on the incidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and coronary heart disease (CHD) in Italy, as well as the role of behavioral and biological risk factors (BBRF). The findings revealed a higher risk of CVD and CHD among individuals with lower education levels. BBRF played a significant mediating role in the education inequalities.

Summary: The study found that in 2019, out of 3,695,019 pregnancies in the United States, 528,778 had no risk factors, 169,540 had one or more high-risk factors, and 2,996,701 had one or more moderate-risk factors. Multifetal gestation was the most common high-risk factor, while low socioeconomic status was the most common moderate-risk factor. According to the 2021 criteria, 3,166,241 pregnant patients (85.7%) were eligible for LDA for preeclampsia prevention.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between the use of spironolactone and the risk of stroke in hypertensive patients. The results showed that spironolactone use was associated with a lower risk of total stroke, particularly ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. The dose-response analysis confirmed a dose-dependent association between spironolactone and a lower risk of stroke in hypertensive patients.

Summary: The coexistence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and primary aldosteronism (PA) is common in hypertensive patients. The controversy of whether hypertensive patients with OSA should be screened for PA still exists, and the influence of gender, age, obesity, and OSA severity has not been explored. In this study, we found a higher prevalence of PA in hypertensive patients with OSA, especially in men, young and middle-aged individuals, and those with overweight and obesity. OSA severity was also associated with PA prevalence. Logistic regression analysis identified young and middle age, moderate-severe OSA, weight, and blood pressure as independent risk factors for PA presence. The findings suggest the importance of PA screening in hypertensive patients with coexisting OSA, and further studies are needed to investigate the relationship in women, older individuals, and lean population due to the limitations of this study.

Summary: A study found that diurnal cortisol features are associated with the risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D) in patients with hypertension and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Specifically, a steep diurnal cortisol slope (DCS) is associated with lower T2D risk, while higher midnight cortisol levels are associated with higher T2D risk. These findings suggest that diurnal cortisol features may be an important target for early prevention of diabetes in this population.

Summary: This longitudinal observational study found an independent association between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and renal damage in patients with hypertension, suggesting a higher risk of chronic kidney disease. This association remained consistent after adjusting for gender, age, obesity, and OSA severity. Further research is warranted to investigate the relationship between OSA and renal impairment in hypertensive patients.

Summary: The objective of this study was to evaluate the predictive ability of the METS-IR index for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and its subtypes in patients with hypertension and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The study found that the METS-IR index was associated with an increased risk of new-onset CVD, coronary heart disease (CHD), and stroke. METS-IR can facilitate the identification of high-risk individuals and provide personalized CVD prevention.
