Summary: This study compares the effectiveness of ondansetron and domperidone in treating vomiting in children with acute gastroenteritis. The results showed that compared to domperidone, ondansetron was more effective in controlling vomiting, reducing the need for additional doses, and the need for intravenous rehydration.

Summary: The study found that tropisetron is superior to ondansetron in preventing postoperative vomiting. While there were no significant differences between ondansetron and tropisetron in terms of postoperative nausea, antiemetic treatment, and headache, ondansetron was found to be 39% less effective than tropisetron in preventing postoperative vomiting with a higher incidence of dizziness.

Summary: The study concluded that the addition of oral antibiotic prophylaxis (OABP) to mechanical bowel preparation (MBP) in colorectal surgery can reduce the rate of surgical-site infection (SSI) and anastomotic leak (AL), therefore recommending routine use of OABP in colorectal surgery with anastomosis.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the occurrences of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) in adult patients undergoing elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) who were administered preoperative intravenous fluid loading, ondansetron, or neither. The results showed that neither the preoperative fluid loading nor the ondansetron had an effect on PONV in patients aged 50 and older. However, ondansetron was beneficial for PON prophylaxis in patients under the age of 50.

Summary: This study aims to compare the outcomes after planned early versus late stoma reversal in patients undergoing low anterior resection for rectal cancer. The results showed similar overall complications and quality of life between early and late stoma reversal, but more stoma-related complications in the late reversal group. The risk of developing anastomotic leakage after early ostomy reversal is a concern.

Summary: This review provides a summary of available evidence on the transition care of ADHD patients from the perspectives of all service users. Common barriers and suggestions for improvement were extracted from qualitative research, and recent evidence on the experiences of stakeholders involved in the transition process was summarized. The review reveals the need to define and evaluate the effectiveness of transition programs from child to adult ADHD services.

Summary: This study analyzed an Italian birth cohort and found that the prevalence of overweight at 12 months was 23.5%, with big infant appetite and living in southern Italy being the main factors associated with a higher likelihood of being overweight. Breastfeeding practice did not influence the chance of being overweight, but was associated with changes in BMI z score at 12 months. The study concludes that sociodemographic factors play a significant role in the likelihood of childhood overweight at 12 months and early interventions may help prevent obesity.

Summary: This study compared the main clinical characteristics of infants with SARS-CoV-2-related bronchiolitis to those with bronchiolitis associated with other viruses. The results showed that infants testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 required less respiratory support compared to SARS-CoV-2-negative infants. The study found that SARS-CoV-2 rarely causes bronchiolitis in infants and has a mild clinical course.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the feasibility of family paediatricians identifying the signs of postpartum depression in parents to ensure child well-being. The results showed that 19.9% of mothers, 6.3% of fathers, and 5% of couples reported depressive symptoms. Maternal postnatal depressive symptoms were associated with diagnosed psychiatric disorders during pregnancy, non-exclusive breastfeeding at hospital discharge, and child sleeping disorders at 3 and 6 months. Being a first-time parent was also a significant predictor of postpartum depression. For fathers, the only significant association was between depressive symptoms and child sleeping disorders at 3 months. Having a likely depressed partner was strongly associated with depressive symptoms in fathers.

Summary: This study used ATP bioluminescence analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of a overheated dry-saturated steam device in reducing microbial contamination on dental chairs' surfaces. The results showed statistically significant differences in Relative Light Unit values and categorical data for all surfaces before and after steam disinfection. The overheated dry-saturated steam system effectively reduced microbial contamination and may help reduce the risk of cross-infections.

Summary: Familial hypomagnesemia with hypercalciuria and nephrocalcinosis (FHHNC) is a rare inherited disorder caused by mutations in the CLDN16 or CLDN19 genes. Currently, there are no effective drug therapies for this condition. In our case report, we describe a patient with FHHNC who initially received high doses of magnesium pidolate and magnesium and potassium citrate, but later switched to an effervescent magnesium formulation for better compliance and bioavailability.

Summary: This article reports the first case of a pediatric patient under 12 years old in Europe receiving evinacumab for the treatment of severe hypertriglyceridemia. The patient achieved significant improvement in triglyceride and cholesterol levels after treatment, suggesting that evinacumab may be used in the pediatric population when other therapeutic strategies are ineffective or contraindicated.

Summary: Accidents are the main cause of injury in children, especially at home. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of SARS-CoV-2 lockdown on emergency department visits for children's domestic accidents and identify factors associated with hospitalization. The study found a significant increase in domestic accidents during the lockdown period compared to the previous year, with a higher risk of hospitalization for poisoning and a lower risk for stab-wound injuries. The risk of hospitalization was also higher for males and increased with age.

Summary: This article reports a rare case of fetal cheek rhabdomyoma that could not be removed due to size and patient age, but did not show signs of spreading or progression over a 36-month follow-up. It demonstrates the possibility of conservative management of these lesions in the first years of life with close sonographic and clinical follow-up.

Summary: This study investigates the management of acute pharyngitis in emergency units in Italy. The results show that about half of the units use a scoring system to diagnose pharyngitis, with the McIsaac score being the most commonly used. Most emergency units do not provide rapid antigen diagnostic tests, but they are more readily available in units with higher patient volume. Despite the lack of microbiologically confirmed cases, about half of the units prescribe antibiotics for children with pharyngitis.
