Summary: This study investigated the impact of depression on the outcome of percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) in patients with lumbar disc herniation. The findings showed that patients with continuous depression experienced less improvement in symptom severity and disability score after PELD over a five-year period. Depression has little effect on lumbar vertebral stability after PELD.

Summary: This study analyzed the long-term recurrence rate and compared the IPOM and IPOM plus techniques for laparoscopic ventral hernia repair (LVHR). The results showed that the IPOM plus technique had a higher cut-off point for ring size and a lower recurrence risk. These findings have implications for expanding the indication for LVHR and selecting the appropriate surgical technique.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between postoperative disc height loss and pseudarthrosis after ACDF, as well as the impact on revision surgery and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). The results showed that disc height loss was associated with the occurrence of pseudarthrosis, but not with the need for revision surgery. Additionally, postoperative disc height loss was significantly related to less improvement in PROMs.

Summary: This study investigated the fusion rates and complications associated with TSIF in long fusions to the sacrum for adult spinal deformity (ASD). The results showed that TSIF is a relatively safe and minimally invasive method with acceptable fusion rates and a low complication rate, but is not recommended for revision reconstruction in ASD.

Summary: This study aims to report the bulging and recurrence rates after laparoscopic ventral hernia repair, and to analyze the risk factors responsible for failure. Results show good recurrence rate at 5 years follow-up, but some patients experience bulging, with COPD being the only risk factor for both outcomes.

Summary: This study investigated the clinical and imaging outcomes of 12 female patients with pulmonary cement embolism (PCE) and more than 5 years of follow-up. The majority of patients were asymptomatic during follow-up, and the cement embolus remained in the initial position throughout the long-term follow-up. Routine prophylactic anticoagulation may not be necessary for patients with peripheral PCE during follow-up.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy between allograft intervertebral disc transplantation (AIDT) and anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) in the treatment of cervical spondylosis. The results showed that AIDT achieved better long-term outcomes in terms of neck disability and pain scores, restored motion of adjacent segments, and reduced the incidence of adjacent segment degeneration.

Summary: Most patients undergoing extracardiac Fontan operation have satisfactory long-term survival, but there are still risks of adverse events and late failure. The risk of late adverse events and heart transplant is associated with the preoperative diagnosis of patients.

Summary: Severe periventricular white matter hyperintensities, cerebral microbleeds, or cumulative cerebral small vessel disease burden have important influences on the long-term outcome of primary intracerebral hemorrhage. Cerebral microbleeds and periventricular white matter hyperintensities were significantly associated with poor functional outcome, while periventricular white matter hyperintensities and lobar cerebral microbleed severity were associated with stroke recurrence. However, the cumulative cerebral small vessel disease score was associated with both poor functional outcome and stroke recurrence.

Summary: This study assessed the long-term outcomes of robotic-assisted (RALF) and conventional laparoscopic fundoplication (CLF) in treating patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The results showed no significant differences between RALF and CLF in terms of symptoms, quality of life, and treatment failure after 12 years.

Summary: This meta-analysis examines the failure rate of meniscal repair and analyzes factors that may influence surgical outcomes. The overall failure rate is 14.8%, with lower failure rates in cases where anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction is performed concurrently and in lateral meniscal repair.

Summary: This study reports Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) of a previous trial that showed that robotic-arm assisted total hip arthroplasty (RO THA) improved accuracy of component positioning compared to conventional total hip arthroplasty (CO THA). However, in this study, there was no significant improvement in PROMs with RO THA.
