Summary: This study highlights the diagnostic and therapeutic gap for osteoporosis in patients with fragility fractures in Mexico, showing a higher rate of failure to diagnose and treat osteoporosis compared to other countries. Measures should be taken to reduce this gap and improve care for these patients.

Summary: Trimalleolar ankle fractures predominantly affect younger men and older women, with postmenopausal women having lower bone mineral density and a higher risk of fractures. This study aimed to analyze the association between patient characteristics and cortical bone thickness of the distal tibia in trimalleolar ankle fractures. The results showed that older age and female sex were associated with reduced cortical bone thickness and an increased risk of subsequent osteoporotic fractures.

Summary: Fragility fractures are a significant public health issue globally, with hip fractures being most prevalent in women aged 80 and above. Older age and recent fractures were identified as independent risk factors for further fracture events. There was a significant excess mortality rate in individuals aged 80 and above with a previous hip fracture.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between BMD and risk of fragility fracture in native Chinese population. The findings showed that decreasing BMD measurement parameters and anthropometric indicators increased the risk of clinical fragility fracture, with variations in fracture HR based on gender and site.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the association between hematopoietic and skeletal tissues in patients with fragility fractures. The medical records of women over 40 years old who visited the Bone Disease Unit of Sapienza University of Rome for osteoporosis were retrospectively analyzed. The results showed that RDW values were significantly associated with vertebral fractures, and hematocrit was negatively associated with hip fractures. These findings provide guidance for doctors in evaluating blood indices in patients with suspected bone fragility.

Summary: Interdisciplinary orthogeriatric care for older adult hip fracture patients is crucial, and increased involvement of geriatricians has a significant impact on outcomes, including early mobilization, mobility, and initiation of osteoporosis treatment. Standardized treatment pathways and structured data collection in specific registries improve outcome monitoring and interpretation.

Summary: Osteoporotic fractures are a major problem in healthcare systems worldwide. Fragility fractures of the hip have a greater impact on morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs than other fracture sites. There is a lack of awareness of osteoporosis and most high-risk individuals do not receive adequate treatment.

Summary: Robust data on osteoporosis in the Asia Pacific region can improve healthcare decision-making. Osteoporosis affects 10-30% of women aged 40 + and up to 10% of men in 7 developed economies in the Asia Pacific. Fractures affect 500-1000 adults aged 50 + per 100,000 person-years. Policymakers and clinicians must address this problem.

Summary: This study aimed to describe specific characteristics of patients with pelvic fragility fractures and evaluate factors influencing treatment decisions. Results showed that fracture type, mobility level, and pain level were key factors influencing the decision for surgical treatment. Patients with B2 fractures benefited in terms of mobility level with surgical treatment at discharge.

Summary: Hip fracture prevention is crucial in elderly care, with a history of prior fracture as a significant risk factor. This study evaluated the prevalence of previous fractures in hip fracture patients over a year and assessed their use of anti-osteoporotic medication. The results showed a high percentage of patients with prior fractures, with vertebrae fractures being the most common, and a majority of those without prior fractures were on preventative medication. Prescriptions rates were higher for females compared to males.

Summary: The compassionate community movement, as a public health approach and social model of care, is gaining popularity in Canada and other countries. The Windsor-Essex Compassion Care Community in Canada is a successful example that focuses on improving the quality of life, health, and wellbeing of vulnerable and aging populations through identifying and addressing social and other risks. The pilot evaluation of WECCC shows positive outcomes in participant satisfaction, changes in health and quality of life, and social connections.

Summary: The study examined the associations between cognition, frailty, falls, and self-reported incident fractures. The results showed significant associations between frailty, falls in the past 12 months, and self-reported incident fractures, while no association was found between cognition and incident fractures. Furthermore, the association between frailty and incident fractures was more pronounced in individuals aged 65 years or older.

Summary: The study demonstrated the potential of GENIE, supported by volunteers, to expand patients' social networks and link them to relevant HSSs. Feasibility testing showed that participants had a partial understanding of the tool, volunteer facilitation was critical for implementing GENIE, and clinicians perceived their navigation ability superior to that of GENIE supported by volunteers.

Summary: This study aimed to identify factors influencing the implementation of an antimicrobial stewardship intervention at a long-term care facility, with a focus on urinary tract infections, and explore the potential roles of pharmacists. The results showed that barriers mainly included lack of access, knowledge, effective communication, and external factors, while facilitators included education, collaboration, communication, resources, and access. Effective interventions should address these factors to optimize success and sustainability.
