Summary: This paper introduces a general sparse kernel learning formulation based on random feature approximation to tackle the challenge of big data era. A new large-scale sparse kernel learning algorithm (AsyDSSKL) is proposed using techniques of asynchronous parallel computation and doubly stochastic optimization. Experimental results demonstrate that AsyDSSKL has significant superiority in computational efficiency over existing kernel methods.

Summary: Early intervention researchers in the intersection of public health, pediatrics, and early intervention engage in translational research and implementation science to bridge the gap between research and practice. However, there is still a significant research-to-practice gap in early intervention. This commentary proposes an alignment of translational research phases for early intervention to promote transdisciplinary collaborations and positive outcomes for young children and families.

Summary: Reset controllers have the potential to improve the performance of high-precision industrial motion systems. However, analyzing the stability of these controllers is complex and requires the parametric model of the system, which may limit their applicability. This paper proposes a frequency-domain approach to assess the stability properties of control systems with first and second-order reset elements. The proposed approach can also determine the uniformly bounded-input bounded-state (UBIBS) property for reset control systems when resetting to non-zero values. An illustrative example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of using frequency response measurements to assess the stability properties of reset control systems.

Summary: This paper proposes a distributed learning algorithm for iterative learning control (ILC) systems, aiming to achieve perfect tracking tasks. By integrating observer-based design and consensus-based design ideas, a multiagent system is constructed to solve linear algebraic equations with partial information. With this algorithm, all agents can agree on a common solution for any solvable linear algebraic equations under any initial conditions of agents, regardless of whether it has a unique solution or not.

Summary: This paper presents a modular dynamic scaling-based immersion and invariance (I&I) adaptive control framework for a class of nonlinear systems with parametric uncertainties. The framework is based on an invariant manifold approach, allowing predefined target dynamics to be assigned to closed-loop systems. By using matrix reconstruction and dynamic scaling technique, the integrability obstacle inherent to I&I methodology is overcome, showing that scaling factor is not necessary for implementation. The method is also demonstrated to have bounded robustness against three different types of disturbances. An application to Euler-Lagrange systems with unknown inertia parameters illustrates the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Summary: Social interactions significantly impact the quality of life for people with special needs, but evaluating the systems that assist them poses challenges in data gathering. This systematic review examines the data gathering methods for evaluating socially assistive systems (SAS) and finds that these systems are primarily targeted at individuals with visual impairments, older adults, and children with autism. Evaluation methods such as interviews, questionnaires, and observations are commonly used, providing insights for future development and research.

Summary: Key mechanisms and contextual factors were identified in a realist evaluation on the integrated delivery of immunisations and family planning in Ethiopia. These mechanisms and drivers play a crucial role in intervention implementation, influencing decision making and outcomes among health workers, religious leaders, and community members. The study findings provide insights into how and for whom the intervention works, allowing for a level of abstraction through linking empirical mechanisms with theoretical frameworks of implementation.

Summary: The co-circulation of arthropod-borne viruses, including Zika and Chikungunya, is increasingly common. This study investigated the geographic and temporal distribution of these infections during pregnancy and found that clinical symptoms alone may not be sufficient for differentiating Zika and Chikungunya infections. Summary: This study explores the perspectives and experiences of stroke survivors in South Africa regarding stroke care services. The results show that stroke survivors face various challenges in accessing care, including complex pathways, mobility issues, limited transportation options, long waiting times, and financial burdens. The perceived quality of services is influenced by cultural beliefs, attitudes, and information barriers. To improve stroke care, strategic leadership, governance, and resources are needed, along with better communication about prevention, symptoms, and services. The involvement of family members in continuity of care should be strengthened.

Summary: Evidence suggests that integrating family planning with childhood immunization services can help meet the postpartum family planning needs of women in sub-Saharan Africa. However, the quality and responsiveness of these integrated services have been understudied. A qualitative study in Malawi identified hardware and software factors that influence the responsiveness of family planning services integrated with childhood immunizations. Factors such as access, choice of provider, environment, continuity, confidentiality, communication, dignity, and counseling were found to impact service responsiveness. The study highlights the importance of considering software elements in the design and delivery of integrated services.
