Summary: This study aimed to test the application of the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) sleep measures in pediatric atopic dermatitis (AD) and develop an algorithm for screening, assessing, and intervening sleep disturbance. The PROMIS sleep disturbance measure showed high reliability and correlation with disease severity. Thus, it is recommended to screen sleep disturbance using the POEM sleep question and further assess using the PROMIS sleep disturbance measure or objective sleep monitoring if needed.

Summary: Increased pain sensitivity is associated with higher postoperative pain levels and inferior PROMs in patients undergoing primary TKA. Patients with higher pain sensitivity had higher pain VAS scores and worse preoperative WOMAC scores, while those with lower pain sensitivity reported higher satisfaction with surgery.

Summary: This study compared the video-clinician-based tools and patient-reported questionnaires in assessing gait and balance in people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS). The results showed that clinician-based tools demonstrated consistent results with patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), especially in moderate and severe cases.

Summary: Heartburn is a common symptom in daily clinical practice, often associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). However, it can also be caused by various factors and diseases other than GERD. Therefore, it is important for physicians to carefully differentiate between GERD and non-GERD conditions, especially when anti-reflux medications are not effective in treating heartburn.

Summary: This prospective study aimed to assess the HRQoL, functioning, fatigue, and psychological distress in patients with suspected dLGG preoperatively, finding that fatigue and anxiety were prominent symptoms in these patients but may not be reliable indicators of underlying biology or treatment decisions. Differences in these parameters between molecular tumor subtypes were not statistically significant.

Summary: Malignancy and treatment effects in head and neck oncology can have devastating impacts on functional aspects of patient life, such as swallowing, speech, dry mouth, and chewing. Patient-Reported Outcomes (PROs) have become the gold standard for assessing subjective functional outcomes, but few have incorporated extensive patient input in their development process. More efforts are needed to involve head and neck cancer patients in PRO development, particularly in the domains of speech and chewing.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the predictive properties of different patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures for all-cause mortality, acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and associated hospitalization. The results showed that the Baseline Dyspnea Index (BDI), St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ), COPD Assessment Test (CAT), and Hyland Scale scores were significantly related to mortality. Furthermore, almost all clinical, physiological, and PRO measurements were found to be associated with the first exacerbation and associated hospitalization.

Summary: This study identified increased expression of nerve growth factor (NGF) and decreased abundance of dendritic cells in the mucosa of GERD patients, which may be related to neuronal sprouting and immune responses in GERD.

Summary: Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) offer a global perspective of a person's health status and are categorized into global, mental, physical, and social health domains. Challenges in using PROs in cardiac clinical trials include long-term measurement, inconsistency in outcome measures, and lack of measurement across multiple domains. Opportunities for advancement include utilizing consumer health informatics tools to measure PROs and quantifying minimal clinically important differences.

Summary: This study explored the relationship between pulmonary regurgitation and quality of life and health status in adults with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), and found that with advancing age, patients reported more problems in mobility and pain or discomfort. Factors associated with superior patient-reported outcomes include race, syndrome, employment, and left ventricular function, while being asymptomatic was found to have the greatest impact on quality of life and health status.

Summary: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional gastrointestinal disorder characterized by abdominal pain and altered defecation. The bidirectional interaction between the central, autonomic, enteric nervous system, the microbiome, and the gut barrier helps understand the pathophysiology of IBS. Therapeutic options like low-FODMAP diet have gained interest, but other options should also be considered.
