Summary: This study explores the determinants, impacts, and preventive strategies of child marriages and reveals the problems faced by adolescent brides and mothers. The findings highlight that patriarchal cultural norms, the perception of safety under the protection of another man for girls, and poverty are the main determinants of adolescent marriages. Adolescent brides experience partner violence, including physical, psychological, and sexual violence. Adolescent mothers have low maternal self-confidence, face childcare challenges, and may neglect their children. Improving family-child communication and addressing financial inadequacies are suggested as prevention strategies for child marriages.

Summary: This study examines the characteristics of healthcare delivery, providers, and adolescents that are associated with provider-adolescent discussions about sexual and reproductive health (SRH) during preventive visits. The study finds that such discussions are positively associated with face-to-face screening about sexual activity, having time alone with the adolescent, and communicating about confidentiality. The perception of adolescents regarding the importance of a topic is also closely related to the discussions.

Summary: Studies have shown that African immigrant health in the U.S. has traditionally focused on infectious diseases, but the increasing burden of non-communicable diseases highlights the importance of preventive healthcare. Key informant interviews revealed barriers to preventive healthcare access for African-born individuals, ranging from lack of knowledge and language barriers to high healthcare costs. Effective community outreach and culturally competent providers were identified as key elements to improve healthcare uptake among this population.

Summary: Although most parents and adolescents value provider-adolescent discussions of selected SRH topics, these discussions do not occur routinely during preventive visits. Preventive visits represent a missed opportunity for adolescents to receive screening, education, and guidance related to SRH. Discussions about SRH topics other than puberty were particularly uncommon, especially among younger adolescents.

Summary: The study revealed a knowledge gap regarding trauma-informed services for survivors of sexual violence and a prevalent issue of sexual violence in the community. Many participants were unaware of trauma-informed services, leading to a hesitancy among females to seek help after experiencing sexual violence. Various factors such as fear of the perpetrator, bribery, and stigma hindered the utilization of trauma-informed services for survivors.

Summary: Most Americans were willing to get a COVID-19 vaccine, but several vulnerable populations reported low willingness. Public health efforts should address these gaps as national implementation efforts continue. Black respondents were less willing than White respondents to get vaccinated, while Hispanic respondents were more willing. Females, those without insurance, and some younger age groups were also less willing to get vaccinated.

Summary: In direct-to-consumer television advertising, animated advertisements result in more negative attitudes than live-action or rotoscoped advertisements, but have no effects on perceptions of drug risk or benefit, comprehension, or behavioral intentions. Further research should investigate whether animated advertisements are better recalled over time or have any lagged effects on perceptions.

Summary: The study aimed to develop and validate measures of patient perceptions of prescription drug risk, benefit, and efficacy through a mixed-methods approach. After three waves of quantitative testing with a large sample of U.S. adults, 21 validated measures were identified, demonstrating validity and reliability across different populations, health conditions, and types of prescription drug advertisements. These measures provide a useful tool for assessing patient perceptions and promoting comparability between studies in the future.
