Summary: Multi-omic profiling of patients with coronary artery disease reveals links between alterations in the serum metabolome with genetics, diet, and the microbiome. The study found that these metabolomic alterations are associated with metabolic impairment preceding clinically overt coronary artery disease. The results highlight the importance of understanding risk-factor heterogeneity in coronary artery disease through the serum metabolome.

Summary: This study investigates the use of coronary artery calcium scoring (CACS) as a tool for coronary artery disease (CAD) risk stratification and its association with conventional cardiovascular risk factors. The results demonstrate a strong positive correlation between CACS and coronary artery stenosis, indicating the potential of CACS as a useful tool for CAD risk assessment.

Summary: This study found that women with chronic coronary syndrome have a higher prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, and diabetes mellitus. Women were more often treated conservatively and had a lower frequency of achieving the LDL cholesterol goal. Additionally, women were more often treated with angiotensin receptor blockers and had a higher left ventricle ejection fraction. Men were diagnosed with coronary artery disease earlier and had more efficient prevention and therapy.

Summary: The study found that 95.5% of patients undergoing their first PCI had at least one risk factor for coronary artery disease. Nearly half of the patients had three or more risk factors. The average age difference between men and women narrowed as the number of risk factors increased, and smoking and obesity were associated with earlier age of diagnosis.

Summary: The study revealed a polygenic overlap between neuroticism and CAD and CVD risk factors, with several genetic loci associated with both neuroticism and multiple CVD risk factors. Functional analysis of the shared genes implicated pathways related to cell division, nuclear receptors, elastic fiber formation, and starch and sucrose metabolism. These findings highlight the potential role of genetic factors in contributing to the comorbidity between neuroticism and cardiovascular diseases.

Summary: CAAs are a group of congenital conditions characterized by abnormal origin or course of the 3 main epicardial coronary arteries. While they have been identified as a common underlying condition in young athletes, their recognition among adults has increased with the widespread use of invasive and noninvasive coronary imaging. The clinical correlates and therapeutic choices for CAAs remain poorly understood, with studies suggesting that multimodality imaging may play a key role in management.

Summary: An analysis of National Health Insurance data in Korea showed that pre-existing depression does not have a significant impact on mortality in patients with established coronary artery disease undergoing PCI. However, younger patients with angina and depression may have a higher risk of all-cause mortality.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of myocardial ischemia on patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). The results showed that HFpEF patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) experienced greater deterioration in left ventricular systolic function, but this was not associated with mortality. Furthermore, myocardial ischemia with a positive stress test may contribute to the deterioration of diastolic function.

Summary: This study found that high-risk patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) benefit more from intensive disease management, with significantly greater improvement in days alive and out of hospital (DAOH) compared to low-risk patients. Medication and interventional therapies were found to have significantly greater effects in high-risk patients, indicating a greater benefit in terms of readmission and death.

Summary: This study describes the trends in blood pressure control, blood lipid control, and smoking habits among hypertensive patients in the Region of Vastra Gotaland, Sweden over an 8-year period. The findings suggest that while there have been improvements in blood pressure and lipid control, as well as a decrease in smoking rates, a significant proportion of patients have not achieved target levels for cardiovascular risk factors.

Summary: This study compared trends in home-time for heart failure patients of working age and retirement age in Sweden from 1992 to 2012. It found that patients of working age had more home-time due to lower mortality rates, and overall home-time increased over the study period. However, the increase stalled after 2007 for older women, likely due to a smaller reduction in mortality in this group. Efforts to improve outcomes for this specific group may be necessary.

Summary: The study analyzed trends in characteristics, management, and survival rates of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) and in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) in Sweden. The survival rate for OHCA increased by 2.2 times from 1990 to 2020, but showed no further improvement in the last decade. For IHCA, the survival rate increased by 1.2 times from 2004 to 2020, with rapid improvement in the last decade. Cardiac causes and shockable rhythms decreased by half, but there was no significant improvement in neurological outcomes.
