Summary: This study investigated the association between dietary zinc intake and total deaths, cancer, and cardiovascular disease death. The results showed that dietary zinc intake was inversely associated with all-cause mortality and cardiovascular disease mortality, but not with cancer mortality. These findings suggest that recommending optimal dietary zinc intake is beneficial for human health.

Summary: This study found that nonfood pro-, pre-, and synbiotics have a protective effect against all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in Americans aged 65 years or older. Nonfood pro-, pre-, and synbiotics can be a novel, inexpensive, low-risk treatment addition for older individuals to prevent all-cause and cardiovascular mortality.

Summary: This study examined the association between PCBs and mortality risk, and whether diet quality could modify this association. The findings showed that dioxin-like PCBs and non-dioxin-like PCBs were significantly associated with all-cause mortality, and the association was modified by diet quality.

Summary: This study examines differences in body compositions and functional fitness tests across genders, age groups, and test periods, and develops functional fitness standards for older Korean adults. The results show significant differences in body compositions and fitness tests across genders, age groups, and test periods. The study proposes guidelines for functional fitness standards for this population. This research is important for practitioners to design more effective physical activity programs or interventions to improve the health conditions of older adults in Korea.

Summary: Research studies have found associations between vitamin D and inflammation, but representative studies in older adults are limited. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between C-reactive protein (CRP) and vitamin D status in a representative sample of older Irish adults. The findings showed that older adults with deficient vitamin D status had higher levels of inflammation as measured by CRP. Optimizing vitamin D status could be an effective and low-cost way to reduce inflammation in community dwelling older adults.

Summary: Leisure time physical activity is associated with reduced risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and all-cause mortality, while occupational physical activity is linked to increased risks, independently of each other. There is no significant interaction between the two domains of physical activity in terms of MACE or all-cause mortality risk.

Summary: Findings from a population-based study suggest that epidural labor analgesia is not linked to an increased risk of autism spectrum disorder. These results are consistent with three other population-based studies that utilized similar research methods. Overall, these high-quality epidemiological data support the conclusion that there is no significant association between epidural labor analgesia and autism spectrum disorder in offspring.

Summary: This study investigates the association between prenatal exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and childhood adiposity in China. The study finds a negative association between exposure to certain individual PFAS and adiposity measurements in children. However, the overall effects of PFAS mixture remain unclear. The study also identifies sex differences, with the PFAS mixture negatively associated with adiposity measurements in boys but positively associated in girls.

Summary: The study suggests that maternal glucose level may affect the association between prenatal PFAS exposure and birth weight. The negative correlation between PFAS concentration and birth weight z-score is more pronounced in the high glucose group, and the correlation becomes stronger as the glucose level increases. These findings indicate that high glucose levels may increase the risk of reduced birth weight related to PFAS exposure, and provide intervention strategies for pregnant women with high PFAS exposure.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the impact of maternal hypertensive disorders (HDP) on the development of diabetes in offspring from childhood to early adulthood. Using Danish national health registers, 2,448,753 individuals born in Denmark from 1978 to 2018 were included. The results showed that offspring of mothers with HDP had an increased risk of diabetes, suggesting that timely and effective prevention of HDP should be considered as a strategy for diabetes prevention and control in future generations.
