Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the predictive ability and interrater agreement of MRI-based anatomic measurements, specifically the coronal membranous urethra length (MUL), for urinary continence after radical prostatectomy (RP). The study found that longer MUL was associated with improved continence outcomes after RP, while other MRI variables had no predictive ability. Age and baseline urinary function score were the only other predictive clinical variables. Interrater agreement of MRI variables was moderate among readers with specific training and poor among those without training.

Summary: Unilateral and bilateral nerve-sparing robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (NS-RARP) procedures have a positive impact on urinary continence in the first 12 months after surgery. There is no significant difference in urinary recovery rates between unilateral and bilateral NS-RARP.

Summary: This study used dynamic MRI to reveal the reasons behind the lower postoperative urinary continence in Retzius-sparing robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RS-RARP) compared to conventional robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (C-RARP). The high attachment of the anterior bladder wall plays an important role in the urethral closure mechanism during abdominal pressure, and RS-RARP can completely preserve this mechanism, reducing the likelihood of stress urinary incontinence.

Summary: The study found that the insertion of a suprapubic catheter during Retzius-sparing robotic-assistant laparoscopic prostatectomy may help with early urinary continence recovery in patients. Furthermore, advanced pathological tumor stage (T3a-T4) before the procedure may be associated with poor urinary control.

Summary: Urinary incontinence is a common postoperative complication following robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) in patients with high-risk prostate cancer (HRPC). The recovery of urinary continence in HRPC patients after RARP is lower than that in intermediate/low-risk patients. Factors such as age, obesity, race, disease status, and surgical approaches can predict the recovery of continence. Special techniques like the NeuroSAFE technique and Retzius-Sparing approach also contribute to the reduction of incontinence in high-risk scenarios.

Summary: This study developed and validated a predictive model using preoperative MRI parameters to accurately assess the risk of incontinence after laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP). The results showed that membranous urethral length, prostate apex depth ratio, and intravesical prostatic protrusion length were significant independent predictive factors of early postoperative urinary continence.

Summary: This literature review summarizes the different nerve-sparing techniques applied during radical prostatectomy, highlighting that nerve-sparing is a field under constant development. Despite various techniques and categorizations, further research is needed to determine the best nerve-sparing technique.

Summary: Comparative studies on nerve-sparing (NS) and non-nerve-sparing (NNS) surgical techniques for prostate cancer patients showed an increased risk of positive surgical margins with NS surgery, but no negative impact on biochemical recurrence. However, methodological uncertainties exist in current research and more data is needed to support these findings.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the association between surgeon's experience and center caseload with urinary continence recovery after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy. The results showed that continence recovery at 1 year after surgery was adequate and robust to surgeon's experience, without a significant association with center caseload.

Summary: This study evaluated the preservation grades of the neurovascular bundle during robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy and compared it to the trifecta combined outcome twelve months after the surgery. The results showed that patients with higher preservation grades had better outcomes in terms of trifecta combined outcome and erectile function.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and predictive factors of short- and mid-term continence in patients undergoing robotic-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (RALP) without any anterior/posterior reconstruction. The results showed that most patients achieved full recovery of urinary continence at mid-term follow-up, but a proportion of patients still experienced early incontinence. Therefore, the implementation of surgical techniques advocating anterior and/or posterior fascial reconstruction may improve the early continence rate in RALP candidates.

Summary: This study evaluated the relationship between enlarged prostate, bulky median lobe (BML), or prior benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) surgery and perioperative functional and oncological outcomes in high-risk prostate cancer patients treated with Retzius-sparing robot-assisted radical prostatectomy. The study found that patients with enlarged prostate had a higher risk of positive surgical margins, while patients with prior BPH surgery had suboptimal urinary continence recovery.

Summary: This narrative review aimed to investigate the role of diabetes in the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of Peyronie's disease (PD). Diabetes is one of the most common comorbidities in PD patients and is strongly associated with erectile dysfunction. Metabolic alterations typical of diabetes play a pivotal role in the development of PD and resistance to its medical treatment.

Summary: This study found that in patients with non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, the experience of surgeons was inversely associated with the presence of detrusor muscle in the specimen when the perioperative surgical checklist was adequately implemented. However, the experience of surgeons was directly linked to a higher probability of persistent disease during re-transurethral resection of bladder tumor. No differences were noted in 5-year recurrence-free survival based on surgical experience.

Summary: Obesity has a negative impact on sex hormone metabolism, leading to reduced testosterone levels and potentially affecting male fertility. This study conducted a meta-analysis of observational studies and found that overweight and obese men had lower sperm count and motility compared to normal weight men. The results suggest that increased body weight is a risk factor for male infertility.
