Summary: This study characterized the miRNAome in cat urine for the first time and found that urinary miRNA profiles could potentially serve as non-invasive biomarkers for diagnosing feline pyelonephritis and other urological conditions.

Summary: This study aimed to assess patient understanding of risks, benefits, and alternatives prior to urological procedures using the teachback method. The results showed that patient understanding was generally incomplete but most had partial understanding. Female patients, those who had underwent the same procedure or any surgery within a year, and those undergoing in-office procedures had a higher level of understanding. Pre-procedural interviews using the teachback method significantly improved patient understanding, and most patients were satisfied with their understanding.

Summary: This study assessed the environmental impact of reusable and disposable flexible cystoscopes through a life cycle assessment. The findings showed that using a disposable cystoscope can significantly reduce the environmental footprint compared to the disinfection reprocessing of reusable cystoscopes. The reduction was observed in categories such as climate change, mineral resource depletion, ecotoxicity, acidification, and eutrophication. However, these results cannot be generalized to all healthcare facilities as the study focused on a specific reprocessing method and a single type of disposable cystoscope.

Summary: Transfusion-free urological surgeries can be safely performed in Jehovah's Witness patients using contemporary perioperative optimization. As surgical risk category increases, there is a corresponding increase in blood loss, length of stay, and use of blood augmentation and conservation techniques, without a rise in complication rates or readmission rates related to bleeding.

Summary: Screening and treating ASB in kidney transplant recipients does not reduce the occurrence of symptomatic UTI, but instead increases antibiotic use and the emergence of resistant organisms.

Summary: FlowUTI is a shiny web application designed to establish optimal cut-off values for flow cytometry in urine samples from patients with urinary tract infection (UTI) symptoms. It provides a user-friendly graphical interface and robust statistical analysis, reducing the computational burden associated with this type of analysis. The application analyzed urine samples from neonates, infants, and elderly populations, and the source code is available on GitHub with online access provided.

Summary: This retrospective study of 293 patients with ASB before urological procedures found that administering a single dose of antimicrobial drug before the procedure and a second dose post-procedure was effective in preventing infectious complications.

Summary: An increasing number of migrants from Sub-Saharan Africa diagnosed with urogenital schistosomiasis (UGS) in Europe have been observed. Some patients required surgical intervention for suspected neoplastic lesions or end-stage organ damage. Difficulty in performing regular follow-ups was noted in several patients. Further multicentric studies are needed to establish proper standards in the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of subjects with UGS.

Summary: Fucosylation plays a crucial role in regulating cancer growth, invasiveness, and resistance to chemotherapy. Abnormal expression of FUTs in several cancers is associated with fucosyltransferase activity. Aberrant fucosylation in PSA could serve as a biomarker for prostate cancer.

Summary: Sedoanalgesia achieved using the PFK combination showed more stable hemodynamics compared to general anesthesia, with less hypotensive episodes and oxygen desaturation. The PFK group also had shorter induction and termination times. This combination is safe, effective, and suitable for urological procedures in patients with multiple comorbidities.

Summary: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence, antimicrobial susceptibility pattern and associated factors of urinary tract infection (UTI) among pregnant women. The study found that the prevalence of UTI was 16.4%, with E.coli as the predominant bacteria isolate. Multidrug resistance was common, and factors such as lack of formal education, previous history of catheterization, and previous history of UTI were associated with higher risk of UTI.

Summary: A delay in the diagnosis of urinary tract infection (UTI) is common, with atypical presentation being one of the causes. This study found that over half of the UTI patients lacked urinary tract symptoms and signs at initial contact, which negatively affected the correct diagnosis.

Summary: In this study, optimal duration of antibiotic prophylaxis in patients undergoing endourological procedures or ESWL with asymptomatic bacteriuria caused by ESBL+ Enterobacterales was investigated. The results showed that a 72-hour prophylaxis regimen did not show superiority over a 24-hour regimen, suggesting that a single dose regimen may be safe and effective.
