Summary: This study analyzed the presence of intestinal parasitism in residents of Las Huacas village in Colombia, focusing on water resource management. The study found a high prevalence of intestinal protozoa, with Blastocystis sp being the most common parasite. The water quality of the storage tank in the village did not meet drinking water standards. Lack of water treatment was found to be associated with parasite presence in children.

Summary: A retrospective cohort study was conducted to investigate the relationship between personal risk factors and treatment types with the improvement of female patients with urinary incontinence. The most common risk factors were episiotomy, repeated urinary tract infections, and constipation. The most effective rehabilitative treatments were kinesitherapy + biofeedback and biofeedback + posterior tibial nerve electrostimulation.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of parents with children diagnosed with Phelan-McDermid Syndrome (SPMD) in relation to the diagnostic process, treatment, and medical care. Through in-depth interviews and researcher observations, five themes were identified: diagnostic process, treatment expectations, family planning, disability world, and family economy. These results can be used by healthcare professionals to assist and support parents.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the reliability of PET/CT in a population exposed to mining activities who had undergone endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) for the diagnosis and/or staging of lung cancer. The results showed that lymph nodes larger than 1 cm and PET/CT uptake with maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) over 2.5 were independent risk factors for malignancy in non-exposed patients, but not in exposed patients. Therefore, PET/CT has diagnostic limitations for lung cancer in individuals with occupational exposure to mining.

Summary: This report presents the X-ray fluorescence results of 12 artifacts from Chinchorro funerary sites in Arica, Northern Chile, with a focus on manganese (Mn) presence. The artifact with the highest Mn concentration underwent Raman spectrometry for further structural identification of the black chromophore. All artifacts showed positive results for Mn, ranging from 1.11% to 63.66%. Mn content above 2% (83.33% of the total) was considered of anthropic origin, and the analyzed pigments were identified as cryptomelane and goethite.

Summary: The article examines the power relations between landowners and wind companies in the Oaxacan Isthmus, specifically focusing on the fixation and distribution of rents from wind energy. It highlights the central role of rent in land grabbing processes and the political nature of rent. By addressing the perspectives of landholders, who have received scant attention in the conflicts over wind energy, the paper adds a different layer to the socio-environmental conflict, where subaltern actors have political and economic motivations to accept wind energy despite recognizing the unequal power relations with electricity companies. The paper contributes to the literature on the political ecology of renewable energy expansion and the resulting conflicts.

Summary: This article analyzes and studies the geomorphological features of the Amarillo river basin in the Famatina mountains in Argentina. It describes the evolution of the relief, including geological forms associated with glacial, periglacial, and gravitational processes, as well as the erosion and accumulation landforms of rivers. This study provides important theoretical foundations for understanding the geomorphological evolution.

Summary: The eastern limit of the Gulf of California rift is poorly defined, but this study used a 2D electrical resistivity model to help clarify its location. The model revealed important features, such as the electric Moho, and allowed the division of the region into two sections with a boundary near the Quitobaquito Hills in Arizona. The southwestern section had more resistive bodies related to strike-slip faults, while the northeastern section lacked these features and had tectonic structures that were less defined. This study highlights the importance of geological inheritance in determining the boundary of the Gulf of California rift.

Summary: The excavations at the Early Iron Age village of Cerro de San Vicente in Salamanca revealed a cluster of adobe dwellings and ancillary buildings, with a focus on house 1. This exceptional dwelling had a long and stable history, with unique clay furniture and ritualized abandonment. Excavations also uncovered a concentration of querns, fine pottery, and artifacts from the eastern Mediterranean, suggesting that house 1 was a gathering hall for social activities and the exchange of goods.

Summary: The Cruz de los Caidos (the Fallen Cross) in Vigo has been the subject of efforts to reinterpret it since 1981. Despite these efforts, the cross remains a symbol of the Francoist regime. Recently, there have been organized demands for its demolition as well as spontaneous interventions, such as graffiti and destruction of elements. These actions reflect a continued memory of Francoism, and highlight the tension between its persistence, forgetfulness, and condemnation.
