Summary: This study examined the impact of first and second eye cataract surgery on driving performance, showing a significant decrease in the rate of crashes/near crashes after both surgeries. Improved contrast sensitivity was associated with better driving outcomes. It highlights the importance of timely cataract surgery for older drivers and suggests using contrast sensitivity as a predictor for driving ability.

Summary: This study aims to compare the cost-effectiveness of AcrySof IQ PanOptix trifocal intraocular lens with AcrySof monofocal intraocular lens from the patient perspective in the US. The results show that bilateral cataract surgery with TFNT00 IOL provides improved vision-related quality of life at an incremental cost, making it a cost-effective treatment option for patients willing to pay out of pocket for cataract surgery.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of cataract surgery on the incidence of dementia in a Korean population aged >= 45 years with a previous diagnosis of cataract. The results showed that cataract surgery significantly reduced the incidence of dementia in male patients and patients under 65 years of age with good visual acuity.

Summary: This study indicates that more NHS patients would be willing to undergo immediate sequential bilateral cataract surgery (ISBCS) if given the choice. The reluctance of surgeons to recommend ISBCS and patient misunderstandings regarding the recovery period may be limiting its uptake.

Summary: This study aims to compare fall incidence, visual acuity, and refractive status before and after cataract surgery. The results show that first eye surgery significantly improves vision, but second eye surgery is needed to minimize fall incidence.

Summary: The study compared the time-saving benefits of using a digital cataract workflow with a manual approach in terms of biometry assessment, data export, intraocular lens calculation, and surgery time. The results showed that the digital approach significantly reduced the overall diagnostic and surgical time and achieved better surgical outcomes.

Summary: This study compared the outcomes of EDOF Mini Well intraocular lens and aspheric monofocal Mini-4-Ready intraocular lens in patients with high myopia. The results showed that the EDOF group had better visual acuities and similar visual quality compared to the monofocal group.

Summary: This study evaluated the influence of different levels of illumination on pupil size in eyes with different types of IOL fixations. The results showed that eyes with retropupillary iris-claw IOL fixation had significantly smaller postoperative scotopic pupil size compared to those with other fixations, while no differences were observed under high-mesopic lighting. Both phakic IOL and capsular-fixation IOL groups showed smaller postoperative scotopic pupil sizes. The surgical techniques used did not seem to impair pupil constriction.

Summary: This study compared the rate of postoperative endophthalmitis between immediately sequential bilateral cataract surgery (ISBCS) and delayed sequential bilateral cataract surgery (DSBCS) using the IRIS Registry database. The results showed that there was no statistically significant difference in the occurrence of postoperative endophthalmitis between the two surgery groups.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to develop a questionnaire to assess visual symptoms and satisfaction before and after cataract surgery with different intraocular lenses. A total of 550 cataract surgery patients completed a self-administered questionnaire preoperatively and postoperatively. The results showed a significant reduction in visual symptoms and improvement in visual acuity and satisfaction after surgery.

Summary: A study was conducted on cataract surgery patients aged 66 years or older in Ontario, Canada from 2002 to 2013. The research found that surgeons who exclusively focus on cataract surgery had a lower risk of adverse events compared to those mainly practicing non-cataract procedures, with moderately diversified surgeons having similar outcomes to exclusive cataract surgeons.
