Summary: This study examined the effects of an immune challenge, induced through exposure to bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPS), on individual and social behavior in female guppies. The research found that healthy individuals showed a preference to associate with saline-injected fish rather than LPS-injected fish. In addition, LPS-injected fish exhibited greater dispersion and less collective behavior cohesion at the group level.

Summary: Differences in allele frequencies between sexual and autosomal genes can be caused by sexual conflict or sequence similarity. Through studying the guppy genome, it was found that only a few genes show evidence of sexual conflict, suggesting that the Y chromosome may accumulate genes with male-specific functions.

Summary: Groups of guppies from different predation environments exhibit differences in decision-making speed and behavioral patterns, with low-predation groups showing faster learning rates over successive trials. However, there is no significant difference in decision-making accuracy between high- and low-predation populations.

Summary: The study reveals that (PS)2 can disrupt the reproductive behavior of male guppies by suppressing their sexual interest in females, reducing competitive behavior frequencies, and decreasing mating time and frequency. Exposure to (PS)2 does not affect male guppies' secondary sexual characteristics or induce estrogenic activity. Transcriptome sequencing identified activation of ECM-receptor interaction and focal adhesion pathways as potential underlying molecular mechanisms in the impairment of reproductive behavior induced by (PS)2.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between the skin microbiome of Trinidadian guppies and fish activity level and shoaling tendency. The results showed that the richness of the skin-associated bacterial community was correlated with behavior in females, but not in males. This suggests a sex-specific physiological interaction between the skin microbiome and host behavior.

Summary: Collective behavior emerges from individual interactions and can be influenced by evolution. This study on Mexican tetra fish reveals that surface fish undergo a transition to schooling behavior mediated by changes in their interactions with neighbors, while cave fish do not exhibit such behavior.

Summary: This study synthesized research on the factors associated with resident responsive behaviors towards care staff and interventions to reduce these behaviors. The findings identified multiple factors at different levels and highlighted the need for a better understanding of the interrelationships among these factors and processes leading to the behaviors. The effectiveness of interventions to reduce the behaviors remains inconclusive.

Summary: This study investigated the changes in gut microbiomes of translocated fish populations. It found that changes in environmental conditions and phenotypic shifts in gut morphology were the main factors driving the shift in microbiome composition. After 30-60 years in new environments, the microbiome composition remained distinct from native populations, but the microbiome function did not change. Stream and drainage-specific signatures were observed for both composition and function. This study highlights the importance of considering environmental microbial colonization, host phenotypic plasticity, and realistic environmental conditions in understanding host-microbiome evolution in the wild.

Summary: This study evaluates the effectiveness of a school intervention called "Stop Sexual Harassment" in addressing and preventing sexual and gendered harassment among adolescents aged 13-15 in Norwegian secondary schools. Through a randomized controlled trial and process evaluation, the study aims to assess the impact of the intervention and gather insights on its implementation. If the intervention proves to be effective, it may be implemented on a larger scale to reduce sexual and gendered harassment among young adolescents.

Summary: Triphenyltin exposure affects morphological colouration in male guppies, causing faded orange/red colouration and diffusely distributed melanin in the skin. Genes related to melanosome components, construction, transport, regulation of melanogenesis, and system effects may be involved in the molecular mechanisms of abnormal morphological colouration induced by TPT.

Summary: Sexual harassment is a common outcome of sexual conflict, and females often change their behaviors to avoid unwanted attention. In Trinidadian guppies, males use either sneak mating behavior or courtship displays as reproductive tactics. In low-predation habitats, males use courtship more and sneak behavior less, and female foraging strategy coevolves with less severe male harassment. Our study found that both sneak behavior and courtship display reduced female foraging, but sneak behavior had a greater effect, particularly on high-predation females.

Summary: Hostile workplaces undermine efforts to make the ecological sciences more inclusive and welcoming, as revealed in survey responses by members of the Ecological Society of America (ESA) and subscribers to the ECOLOG-L listserv. Historically excluded groups in ecology, including scientists of color, women, LGBQPA+ individuals, and those with disabilities, were 1.5 times more likely to encounter negative workplace experiences compared to their counterparts. They were also more likely to opt out of professional opportunities, consider leaving their institution, and consider a career change. Recommendations are provided for addressing interpersonal mistreatment through culture and policy changes.

Summary: Based on observations of a wild population of field crickets, it was found that males adjust their courtship behavior in response to the presence of other males nearby and far away. The study showed that males are stimulated to sing when other males are present at a distance greater than 1 meter, while they are less likely to call when another male is singing very close by (within 1 meter).

Summary: The volunteer's dilemma predicts that individuals in larger groups will cooperate less frequently in producing a public good. Contrary to prediction, our study found that guppies in larger groups inspected a predator more frequently than those in smaller groups. However, individuals in larger groups spent less time in refuges. The link between group size, risk, and cooperation is not solely driven by simple dilution.
