Summary: This study assessed the diagnostic ability in detecting oral lesions among different populations and found worrying low ability to detect suspected malignant oral lesions by both healthcare workers and non-healthcare subjects. Lesion-specific characteristics may lead to differences in recognition.

Summary: This study investigated the knowledge, attitudes, and practice of healthcare workers on early gastrointestinal cancer (EGC) in China. The results showed that healthcare workers had moderate knowledge level, positive attitude, and excellent practice levels on EGC. Good knowledge and positive attitude were correlated with excellent practice, and KAP level might be influenced by sociodemographic characteristics.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the knowledge, practice, and attitude of Italian dental hygienists towards oral cancer. The results showed that the participants had good knowledge of the real risk factors, but there were more heterogeneous results in terms of non-risk factors, oral potentially malignant disorders, and clinical features of oral cancer. Most dental hygienists considered continuing education necessary, but only half of them had taken updating courses. The study suggests the need for improvement in training programs related to oral cancer.

Summary: This study aims to summarize the existing evidence on the test accuracy of gut feeling in general practice for diagnosing cancer. The meta-analysis of available studies suggests that gut feeling has a relatively low sensitivity but high specificity in detecting cancer in general practice. When the prevalence of cancer in the symptomatic population exceeds a certain threshold, gut feeling can be used as a basis for urgent referral and further investigations.

Summary: Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) combined with artificial intelligence (AI) has great potential in the early diagnosis of diseases by detecting volatile biomarkers in exhaled breath. A plasmonic-metal organic framework (MOF) nanoparticle, prepared from Ag nanowires (Ag NWs) coated with zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF), was used for the accurate diagnosis of oral cancer (OC). The AI algorithm, based on an artificial neural network (ANN) model, achieved a classification accuracy of 99% for SERS spectra of breath samples, with an AUC of 0.996 for OC prediction. This study demonstrates the potential of breath analysis combined with AI as a method for early-stage diagnosis of oral cancer.

Summary: Oral cancer is a common form of cancer worldwide, and its incidences can be reduced through healthy lifestyle and control of risk factors. Recent research has shown that miRNAs play a crucial role in the early detection and treatment of oral cancer. Liquid biopsy can be used to determine the role of miRNAs in treatment.

Summary: The study found that the plasma complement factor B combined with CA19-9, known as ComB-CAN, has superior diagnostic ability for early-stage pancreatic cancer (PC). It is suggested that CFB plays a tumor-promoting role in PC possibly by initiating the PI3K-AKT cancer signaling pathway. This establishes ComB-CAN as a reliable early diagnostic marker for PC that can be applied for early screening in the general public.

Summary: The study assessed Indonesian dentists' knowledge of risk factors and diagnostic procedures related to oral cancer. While dentists had a good understanding of major risk factors, there were gaps in their knowledge, particularly in diagnostic procedures. Improving these competencies may contribute to the prevention and early detection of oral cancer.

Summary: This study examines the differences in cancer screening and timely diagnosis between cancer patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and those without MS. The results suggest that breast cancer is less likely to be detected through screening in MS patients, while colorectal cancer is more likely to be diagnosed at an early stage. This may be due to the disability status of MS patients hindering them from undergoing mammograms and colonoscopies. Understanding the pathways to earlier detection in both cancers is critical in improving outcomes for individuals with MS and cancer.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of quarantine on the self-perceived preparedness of dental graduates and explored students' perspectives on online education. Most students missed educational experiences due to the lockdown, felt less motivated for distant e-learning, and were skeptical about online assessment. However, a high percentage believed in the value of online group discussions and preferred online lectures over theatre lectures.

Summary: The Syrian crisis has had a significant impact on the oral health status of refugees. This study aimed to analyze the pattern of tooth extraction among Syrian refugees in the Zaatari camp and identify associated sociodemographic factors. The results showed that dental caries was the leading cause of tooth extraction, with molar teeth being the most frequently extracted. Older age, smoking, lower education level, poor oral hygiene, and male gender were all associated with a higher incidence of tooth extractions.

Summary: The majority of head and neck tumours are squamous cell carcinomas (SCC), and recent advancements have provided evidence for their genetic origins. Identifying prognostic biomarkers in oral SCC is crucial for predicting tumour behaviour and planning treatment. Many studies have shown that combining chemotherapy with radiotherapy improves treatment outcomes and overall survival. Biomarkers such as p53, cyclin D1, and EGFR play a pivotal role in tumour development and progression. This systematic review aims to analyze the prognostic significance of the expression of p53, cyclin D1, and EGFR in advanced oral SCC after chemoradiation therapy.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the degree of bone loss around teeth, vitality of adjacent teeth, and periapical disease. The results showed a significant association between crestal bone loss and the need for root canal treatment. Buccal or lingual crestal bone loss was also significantly associated with a higher rate of periapical disease. Cone-beam computed tomography scans were effective in identifying the severity of bone loss on all surfaces of the teeth.

Summary: The study revealed that the majority of Jordanian dentists prefer using metal ceramic and all-ceramic crowns over endocrowns when restoring root filled teeth. Additionally, fiber posts are the most popular type of posts, and loss of post/core retention or fracture of coronal tooth structure are the two most common reasons observed by dentists when RFT fail. Further training on evidence-based adhesive strategies could improve the longevity of restorations.
