Summary: This review discusses the state of the art and development potential of epoxide hydrolases as biocatalysts, focusing on their application as chiral building blocks for bioactive compounds and drugs. The review covers new approaches to discover epoxide hydrolases using genome mining and enzyme metagenomics, as well as techniques to improve enzyme activity, enantioselectivity, enantioconvergence, and thermostability. The study also explores possibilities for expanding the synthetic capabilities of epoxide hydrolases through non-natural enzyme cascade reactions.

Summary: The combination of [Tb-2(CO2)(9)] units and [Tb-2(CO2)(6)(HCO2)(H2O)(2)]n chains under acidic solvothermal condition resulted in the formation of a highly robust microporous framework. This framework demonstrated high catalytic activity for the cycloaddition of CO2 with epoxides under mild solvent-free conditions.

Summary: Soluble epoxide hydrolase is an important enzyme involved in inflammation and metabolism regulation. The N-terminal phosphatase activity of the enzyme has been poorly understood due to the lack of selective inhibitors. This study identifies 4-aminobenzoic and 3-amino-4-hydroxy benzoic acid as selective competitive inhibitors for N-phos.

Summary: By utilizing the furazan skeleton and hydrazide group as targets, a ligand with multiple coordination sites was designed and synthesized. Different crystallization methods were used to prepare four kinds of ECPs with different structures, and their properties were evaluated. The results showed the best performance in terms of physical-chemical properties and detonation performance for specific ECPs.

Summary: The study aimed to design an efficient protocol for the separation of Glatiramer acetate (GA) from its broth using a carbohydrate-based aqueous two-phase system (ATPS). Preliminary results suggested an optimal feed composition of maltodextrin 15 wt%, acetonitrile 35 wt%, at pH = 6. Under these conditions, GA showed a partition coefficient of 1.17 and a selectivity of 62%.

Summary: D-allulose is considered a promising functional sweetener due to its similarity in sweetness to sucrose and low-calorie profile. This study aimed to obtain immobilised DPEase with high catalytic activity, stability, and ease of separation, and found that the immobilised enzyme exhibited altered substrate specificity. In particular, glycine-blocked DPEase showed better properties than the free form, indicating a superior potential for D-allulose biosynthesis.

Summary: A general biocatalytic process has been achieved for efficient one-pot preparation of enantiopure beta-amino alcohols through asymmetric epoxidation of alkene substrates followed by aminolysis of epoxide intermediates. Hybrid cluster-continuum (HCC) model calculations reveal the mechanism and the role of water in mediating the aminolysis reaction. The chirality of the amino alcohol is determined by the absolute configuration of the epoxide formed in the enzymatic reaction.

Summary: The study reveals that catalytic aspartate and glutamate residues are strongly coupled to other carboxylate residues, while catalytic lysine residues are strongly coupled to tyrosine or cysteine residues. These interactions provide important insights into how weak Bronsted acids or bases in solution can become strong acids, bases, or nucleophiles in an enzymatic environment.

Summary: Organic nitrogen in soils is often too large for plants to directly uptake, as it needs to be cleaved into smaller units by extracellular enzymes. A study was conducted to identify and quantify the products of enzymatic cleavage of organic nitrogen and found that amino acids and small peptides are the primary compounds produced. This research suggests that amino acids and peptides play a significant role in nitrogen cycling, while nucleic acids and lipids may also contribute to nitrogen supply and warrant further investigation.

Summary: Two methods for synthesizing an oxabicyclic pyrrolidine-6-one were described, using enzymatic resolution and gold-mediated catalysis to obtain enantiopure compounds previously reported as racemic mixtures. Addition of Grignard reagents to the ketone resulted in a variety of diversified tertiary alcohols with reported pharmacological activities.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of triazoles on tomato plants and shows that triazoles can impact plant biochemistry, including phytohormonal balance and free amino acid content. The study also suggests that triazole-exposed plants may develop resistance to abiotic stress.

Summary: Silicoaluminophosphates SAPO-34 and SAPO-5 molecular sieves were selectively prepared by hydrothermal method and templates. Hierarchical catalysts were post-synthetically prepared by acid and base etching. Acid treated SAPO-34 showed better catalytic performance than alkali treated SAPO-34.

Summary: The immobilization of HheG D114C variants in the form of cross-linked enzyme crystals (CLECs) was found to enhance stability and reusability, making them suitable for ring opening reactions of epoxides. Among different reactor types, packed bed reactor showed the highest space-time yield of 23.9 kg(product) g(CLEC)(-1) h(-1) L-reactor volume(-1) and the highest enantiomeric excess [64%].

Summary: Developing LC-MS/MS methods for detecting native amino acids can be challenging, leading many scientists to derivatise amino acids to improve sensitivity. Derivatisation offers benefits such as reduced signal-to-noise ratios and more efficient ionisation, but it can also be costly and time-consuming. This study aimed to enhance the detection sensitivity of 20 protein amino acids using HILIC-MS/MS.
