Summary: The study investigated the fabrication of PDMS-coated nets using PDMS/hexane solution and how the dilution ratio affected the penetration of PDMS into the net yarn and the performance of the nets. It was found that a 2:1 and 1:1 ratio of PDMS to hexane showed the best performance. Additionally, the Shore hardness of PDMS had minimal impact on the biofouling control properties, while t-ZnO microparticles were effective in preventing photodegradation of the nylon nets.

Summary: The study aimed to design an amphiphilic fouling release coating containing POx as additives to replace coatings containing biocides, and evaluate its impact on PDMS coatings. Experimental results showed that POx-silicone coating had similar antibacterial fouling efficiency to PEG-silicone coating.

Summary: Diethylenetriamine-modified heparin and alginates, as well as unmodified polysaccharides, were combined using sol-gel chemistry to create hybrid material thin-film coatings. These coatings demonstrated the capability to bind nitric oxide when exposed to NO at high pressures, and they also released nitrogen oxide species in aqueous environments. The hybrid materials showed promising antifouling properties against marine organisms.

Summary: This research tests the efficacy of phosphonium ion gels in preventing biofouling and examines the impact of hydrophobicity and biocide concentration on anti-fouling performance. The study finds that formulations with higher hydrophobicity exhibit better anti-fouling performance, while the presence of copper(II) biocide negatively affects it. Furthermore, no correlation is observed between antimicrobial activity and anti-fouling performance.

Summary: In order to avoid biofouling formation in a closed-photobioreactor (PBR), a non-toxic coating with high transparency is needed. Poly(dimethylsiloxane)-based coatings mixed with poly(ethylene glycol)-based copolymers have been found to inhibit microorganism adhesion, with the DBE-311 copolymer being the most effective option. However, the surface properties of these coatings change over time, allowing cell adhesion after 8 months of immersion. Complementing the XDLVO theory with models to predict conditioning film formation and the contribution of fluid dynamics over time is necessary.

Summary: This study introduces a novel composite material based on 3D spined fabrics and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), which achieves mechanical stability and hydrophobic surface properties by penetrating the shell component into the core material. This approach aims to address the limitations of pure PDMS as a biofouling-release material and revolutionize biofouling management in aquaculture.
