Summary: A boron analogue of vinyl cation, pyridine-stabilized N-phosphinoamidinato N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-diboravinyl cation 2(+), was synthesized and its reactivity and structure were studied experimentally and computationally. The positive charge on the B-B skeleton resonates with the pyridine ligand, and the activation of the pyridine substituent is achieved through the B=B double bond. The results provide insights into the reaction mechanism and properties of this boron analogue.

Summary: A new flex-activated mechanophore has been discovered, which releases an N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) under mechanical load. This design demonstrates a promising first step towards flex-activated designs with downstream reactivities, allowing for iterative activation increases in the material through non-destructive compression cycles. The potential modularity of the mechanophore design is highlighted by the demonstration of two different NHC structures.

Summary: Introducing unknown compound classes is crucial for expanding the chemical space. The authors propose a rational design concept and synthesis of unknown classes of N-heterocyclic compounds. The discovery of reactions is a central topic in chemistry, and the ability to synthesize unexplored compound classes is particularly fascinating. N-Heterocyclic compounds are highly important due to their wide applications in life and material sciences. The authors introduce a sequential three-component reaction, classes of N-heterocyclic compounds, and the regenerative cyclisation synthesis concept.

Summary: This study evaluated the flocculation dewatering performance of a novel cationic chitosan-like bioflocculant (BF01314) produced from Citrobacter youngae GTC 01314. The results showed that BF01314 significantly improved the flocculation performance of activated sludge, reducing resistance and increasing sludge compactness. Furthermore, BF01314 showed good flocculation performance within a wide range of pH and temperature. Electrostatic charge patching and polymer bridging mechanisms were believed to be the dominant mechanisms during the sludge conditioning process of BF01314.

Summary: This research investigates the column biooxidation treatment of organic wastewater containing acrylonitrile and enriches microorganisms from activated sludge for this purpose. The results show that under specific conditions, the microbial consortium is capable of degrading acrylonitrile with an average removal rate of 86.95%. The evolution of the microbial community reveals Sulfurovum as the dominant species, which utilizes a two-step pathway for acrylonitrile degradation.

Summary: A series of mesoionic, electron-rich N-heterocyclic olefins (mNHOs) derived from 1,2,3-triazole were synthesized and characterized. These mNHOs exhibited higher nucleophilicity compared to conventional NHOs and their reactivity with other acceptors could be predicted based on the obtained reactivity parameters.

Summary: A series of extremely electron-rich N-heterocyclic olefins (mNHOs) with an exocyclic CC-double bond were synthesized and characterized. The reactions of mNHOs with arylidene malonates were studied and the nucleophile-specific parameters N and sN of mNHOs were obtained. The nucleophilicity of mNHOs was found to be much higher than conventional NHOs and the reactivity parameters allowed prediction of reaction scope with other electrophilic partners.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the pyridine N-oxide group possesses photoinduced electron transfer property for the first time, and a novel crystalline coordination compound based on ppno has been successfully synthesized. The oxygen atoms in the compound act as both electron acceptors and donors, leading to enhanced performance of PET and radical yield compared to ppno.

Summary: This study developed a comprehensive functional model to describe the kinetics of sludge hydrolysis under low temperature thermal pre-treatment conditions. The results showed that treatment temperature had a greater impact on solubilizing waste activated sludge (WAS) compared to treatment duration. The model had a good fit and could predict the kinetics of sludge hydrolysis under arbitrary treatment conditions.

Summary: The umpolung cross-coupling reaction of pyridine-2-carboxaldehydes and propargylic carbonates was successfully achieved for the first time through N-heterocyclic carbene/palladium cooperative catalysis. The judicious selection of the palladium catalyst, ligand, and N-heterocyclic carbene resulted in regioselective formation of propargylic ketones.
