Summary: This study assessed the impact of interactions between gut microbiota and arsenic on host physiology and toxicity using a Caenorhabditis elegans model. The results demonstrated that feeding the arsenic-resistant bacteria Lysinibacillus sphaericus B1CDA extended the lifespan of C. elegans, enhanced stress response and immunity, and reduced fat accumulation. Furthermore, arsenic-exposed worms fed L. sphaericus showed a longer lifespan, increased cytoprotection and stress resistance, decreased accumulation of reactive oxygen species, compared to those fed Escherichia coli.

Summary: We report the first case of bacteremia caused by Lysinibacillus sphaericus in China, which occurred in an HIV patient. L. sphaericus often leads to infections in immunocompromised individuals. Through genetic analysis and antimicrobial susceptibility testing, the isolated strain was confirmed to be L. sphaericus and found to be sensitive to levofloxacin and vancomycin but resistant to penicillin.

Summary: This paper investigates the degradation of kerosene by Lysinibacillus sphaericus and its impact on the corrosion behavior of 7B04 aluminum alloy. The study reveals that L. sphaericus degrades aliphatic protons in kerosene, forms biofilm on the surface of aluminum alloy, and produces organic acids, leading to accelerated corrosion.

Summary: This study investigated the decolorization efficiency of selective reactive azo dyes by non-adapted Lysinibacillus sphaericus MTCC 9523 in optimized conditions, with visual color changes and spectroscopic analysis confirming decolorization. HPLC analysis showed differences in retention time between control and treated samples, supporting biodegradation, while GC-MS analysis revealed the chemical identities of metabolites and predicted the metabolic pathways of degradation for each dye. Overall, the use of adapted and non-adapted microbes is a promising, cost-effective and time-saving green strategy for the biodegradation of textile effluent containing azo dyes.

Summary: In this study, biofunctional reduced graphene oxide (B-rGO) was successfully synthesized and used to remove Cd from wastewater with an efficiency of 99.2%. The adsorption capacity of Cd was significantly enhanced by extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) generated during the reduction of graphene oxide. Advanced characterization techniques confirmed the Cd adsorption and proposed a potential removal mechanism based on electrostatic attraction, ion-exchange, and complexation.

Summary: This study aims to explore the potential aminopeptidases of Lysinibacillus sphaericus. Through heterologous expression, a high hydrolysis ability was found in Amp0279, which belongs to the novel Co2+-dependent aminopeptidase of the M29 family. The optimal conditions of Amp0279 were determined, and its expression was observed in different stages.

Summary: This study demonstrates the importance of bacterial rRNA modification enzymes in bacterial survival and growth under environmental stress. The pseudouridylation enzyme RsuA, which modifies U516 of 16S rRNA, provides a survival advantage to bacteria under streptomycin stress. In addition, RsuA as a trans-acting factor during ribosome biogenesis also plays a role in bacterial growth.

Summary: The Cry48Aa/Cry49Aa toxin of Lysinibacillus sphaericus specifically targets Culex spp. larvae and interacts with different target sites in the larval midgut. This study identified Glu71 as a binding protein for Cry48Aa and showed its involvement in Cry48Aa/Cry49Aa toxicity.

Summary: The binary toxin produced by Lysinibacillus sphaericus, containing BinA and BinB, shows high toxicity against mosquito larvae and cytotoxicity against HepG2 cells but not Hs68 cells. The study suggests the potential development of Bin toxin as an anticancer agent or a selective delivery vehicle for anticancer agents targeting mitochondria in human cancer cells.

Summary: This study analyzed the abundance and diversity of gut symbionts in Culex pipiens quinquefasciatus resistant or susceptible to Lysinibacillus sphaericus C-3-41. The results showed significant differences in the symbiotic gut bacterial communities between the resistant and susceptible strains, indicating that bacterial insecticides can alter bacterial composition. These findings provide guidance for further research on the mechanisms of gut symbionts involved in resistance to L. sphaericus C-3-41 in Cx. quinquefasciatus.

Summary: Silver nanoparticles were successfully synthesized using extracellular filtrates of Lysinibacillus sphaericus strains, showing bactericidal, fungicidal, and virucidal activities. They exhibited synergistic antimicrobial effect with cephradine and nizoarm. Additionally, the nanoparticles were found to be safe in cytotoxicity tests and may have potential applications in medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical industry for public health products.
