In the present study, genetic characterization of Tricholoma matsutake was identified from the fruit bodies of different geographical origins in southwestern China. A phylogenetic tree was generated based on the sequences of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of related fungi. The analysis of ITS sequence showed that these fungal samples were clustered together with T. matsutake (AF367418.1) and (AF458443) in the phylogenetic tree, which indicated that fungus was a kind of fungi belonging to Subgenus Tricholoma. Furthermore, volatile compounds of T. matsutake from the fruit bodies of fungi collected from the different geographical areas were evluated and compared by using GC-MS. The result indicated that 28, 22 and 27 volatile components were identified from the fruit bodies of T. matsutake of the three different geographical origins, respectively, which could be refered as chemical indicators for the classification of T. matsutake from different geographical origins in southwestern China.
