Summary: Aerosols can contribute to plant nutrition via foliar uptake, especially at night when humidity is high. Although stomata tend to be closed at night, plants can benefit from nocturnal stomatal opening to increase humidity and facilitate nutrient uptake. This hypothesis was supported by experiments on P-deficient soil.

Summary: Foliar application is a common practice used by growers to supply plants with nutrients efficiently. The study shows that non-glandular trichomes of sunflower can absorb and translocate foliar-applied zinc, revealing their role in nutrient uptake and distribution.

Summary: The study evaluated the effectiveness of foliar spray of silica in alleviating water stress in rice. It was found that foliar application of silica improved the drought tolerance of rice by enhancing plant growth and physiological parameters. The integration of silica in breeding programs is recommended to develop drought-tolerant rice cultivars.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the foliar water uptake capacity of six different mangrove species and found significant differences between species. Salt-excreting species had higher foliar water uptake capacity than non-excreting species, and Avicennia marina exhibited distinct leaf anatomical traits. Leaf storage prior to measurement should be considered for leaf water potential measurements.

Summary: The study showed that foliar application of potassium salts can improve apricot fruit yield, color, and physical attributes, as well as enhance storage tolerance. Among the potassium sources tested, K-nitrate was the most effective in improving fruit yield and maintaining postharvest quality characteristics.

Summary: This study examined the foliar epidermal anatomical characteristics of two endemic Apiaceae species in Korea, Bupleurum latissimum Nakai and Dystaenia takesimana (Nakai) Kitag. Scanning electron microscopy was used to observe the detailed anatomical features, and important characteristics such as epidermal cell shape and size, stomata type, and trichome shape and size were identified for taxonomic differentiation. These findings contribute to the understanding of the classical taxonomy of these endemic plant species.

Summary: This study investigated the pericarp ontogeny of species in the subtribe Eugeniinae, revealing promising characteristics such as unique fruit structures in certain species and the presence of trichomes in specific sections. Anatomical features were analyzed through conventional techniques, highlighting predominant cell division patterns in different layers of the fruit.

Summary: Resource islands in semi-arid environments can delay soil desertification. Haematoxylum brasiletto and Pithecellobium dulce have sclerophyllous strategies and high photochemical performance. Pereskia guamacho has succulent leaves and poor photochemical performance.

Summary: Our study reveals that species interactions strongly influence functional traits and can be as important as climatic conditions in driving intraspecific trait variation. We found that mixed stands with downy oak can lead to an adaptive drought response in common beech in dry environments, while interactions with silver fir can enhance beech resource acquisition and productivity in milder climates. Incorporating local interspecific interactions in research on climate impacts may improve understanding and predictions of forest dynamics.

Summary: Manuka honey is known for its strong bioactivity due to the conversion of DHA in floral nectar to the antibacterial compound methylglyoxal during honey maturation. This study found that DHA was present in the floral nectar of two species in the family Myrtaceae, suggesting that DHA accumulation is a shared trait among several genera. This indicates that non-peroxide-based bioactive honey can be sourced from floral nectar outside of the Leptospermum genus.

Summary: This study found that salinity significantly reduced the vegetative growth and yield of cowpea plants, but treatment with salicylic acid improved their salt stress tolerance. This treatment significantly increased plant height, number of leaves, fresh weight, yield, and photosynthetic pigment content.
