Summary: This study validated the False Belief task as a measure of Theory of Mind in schizophrenia and found that individuals with schizophrenia exhibited reduced brain activation in the bilateral TPJ during the task, which was positively associated with ToM abilities. Lower neural activity in the bilateral TPJ was associated with ToM impairments observed in individuals with early course schizophrenia.

Summary: In this study, a systematic literature search was conducted to identify studies using neuroimaging to measure theory of mind (ToM) in schizophrenia. The results showed that patients with schizophrenia exhibited hyperactivations in the superior longitudinal fasciculus II and hypoactivations in the superior frontal gyrus, precuneus and cuneus, and precentral gyrus during ToM tasks. The primary brain regions involved in the potential neuropathways in schizophrenia were the middle temporal gyrus, superior and inferior frontal gyrus, and supplementary motor areas.

Summary: The study suggests that oxytocin levels are associated with social cognition and social dysfunction in patients with schizophrenia. Patients with schizophrenia have more deficits in social cognition and social dysfunction, along with lower plasma oxytocin levels. Plasma oxytocin levels are positively correlated with affective Theory of Mind (ToM) in patients with schizophrenia, and the effects of oxytocin on social functioning are partially mediated by affective ToM.

Summary: The study assessed the prevalence of EPS in schizophrenia patients treated with FGAs and SGAs, and found associations between EPS and the severity of the illness, neurocognitive impairments, and social cognition deficits. EPS were shown to impact patients' neurocognitive functions, but did not directly affect their social cognition abilities.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between social cognition and neurocognition in early course schizophrenia, specifically focusing on whether there are sex differences in this association. The results showed that neurocognition associated with social cognition differed according to sex, suggesting that these differences should be considered for more effective treatment of social cognition.

Summary: This study compared cognitive and theory of mind (ToM) performance between remitted and symptomatic cases of psychotic disorders. The results showed that cognitive impairments and psychopathology levels were similar between the remitted group and other psychotic spectrum disorders (PSD) group. However, the symptomatic group had poorer performance in certain domains compared to the PSD group. These findings suggest that cognitive impairments may exist in both symptomatic and remitted stages of psychotic disorders, and impaired executive functioning/processing speed and ToM skills could be markers for symptomatic illness in youth.

Summary: Multiple cognitive biases, including liberal acceptance (LA) bias, have been suggested to contribute to reality distortion in psychotic disorders. This study examined a similar bias called acceptance of the implausible (AOI), and found that first-episode psychosis (FEP) patients expressed more AOI than control subjects, and the magnitude of AOI correlated with the severity of delusions and theory of mind (ToM) performance. One year later, even when most patients were in remission, patients still displayed increased AOI, which was no longer correlated with delusions. These findings suggest that AOI bias could be a trait feature and may be a causal factor of psychotic disorders, possibly associated with ToM.

Summary: This study compared subjects with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and healthy controls in Theory of Mind assessment and cortical activity, finding that schizophrenia group performed the worst in meta-representation and empathy, and their ToM scores were negatively correlated with negative symptom severity. Activity in cortical regions during ToM task was higher in healthy controls compared to schizophrenia and bipolar disorder groups.

Summary: Understanding the origins of human social cognition is a central challenge in contemporary science. The 'Theory of Mind' (ToM) has been the most popular explanation for human social cognition, but recent research on 'implicit' ToM has questioned its validity. Our article introduces 'script theory' as a new theoretical framework to overcome the limitations of ToM-based frameworks and provide a plausible account of how individuals make sense of others' behavior.

Summary: The study found that in patients with first-episode psychosis, ToM strange story scores were positively correlated with the white matter integrity of the left cingulum and left SLF. This suggests that the left cingulum and SLF may constitute a neural basis for ToM deficits in schizophrenia.

Summary: Energy is crucial for the economic development of any country, but developing countries often rely on imported oil. However, the fluctuating oil prices and environmental concerns associated with fossil fuels are major issues. To address these problems, developing countries have started investing in solar and wind power, and are exploring hydrogen and methanol as future energy resources.

Summary: This online survey showed that psychiatrists in India perceive many advantages and some disadvantages in practicing telepsychiatry. The majority of respondents believed that telepsychiatry offers easy accessibility to mental health services and reduces the risk of infections. However, there are concerns about increased doctor shopping, challenges in dealing with suicidal or homicidal patients, and the inability to perform physical and central nervous system examinations.

Summary: This study examined medication delivery practices adopted by caregivers for patients with severe mental illness (SMI) in India. Covert administration of medication (CoAdM) was found to be a common practice, with 32.0% of SMI patients having received CoAdM at some point. Other strategies used by caregivers included pleading, lying, and threatening. Male gender, absent insight, and poor medication adherence were significantly associated with CoAdM in the past year. Caregivers perceived significant improvements in various aspects of patients' lives after CoAdM, including self-care, interpersonal relationships, work, family functioning, problem behaviors, and dependency.

Summary: Wire Electro Discharge Machining (WEDM) is a nonconventional machining method used for cutting hard conductive materials. This paper reviews recent research and focuses on the effect of different optimization techniques on hard to cut materials. The study examines various input parameters to optimize the process parameters of WEDM, including metal removal rate and surface roughness. The paper also covers single response and multi-response techniques.
