Summary: Higher levels of total prestroke physical activity, as well as work and leisure activities, are associated with a lower risk of mortality after incident stroke. It is suggested that promoting physical activity throughout life could be beneficial in reducing long-term mortality post-stroke.

Summary: Piezo1, a mechanically activated channel, plays an important role in endothelial cells. Lack of Piezo1 leads to apoptosis of muscle microvascular endothelial cells and capillary rarefaction, which affects physical performance. This process may involve a partnership between endothelial cells and muscle pericytes.

Summary: This study investigated and analyzed the leisure-time and occupational physical activity of healthcare workers and assessed their relationship with cardiovascular health. The study found that there were significant differences in intensity and duration between leisure-time and occupational physical activity, and the two were negatively correlated. Occupational physical activity had an unfavorable effect on cardiovascular parameters, while leisure-time physical activity was beneficial. However, the quality of evidence in this study was low.

Summary: This study used Mendelian randomization to examine the causal relationships between physical activity/sedentary behavior and acute/chronic pancreatitis. The results showed a causal relationship between sedentary behavior and acute pancreatitis, indicating that reducing sedentary behavior can help prevent acute pancreatitis and reduce the associated health burden.

Summary: Atherosclerosis is associated with chronic inflammation involving circulating monocytes. Physical activity has been shown to decrease inflammation and the risk of stroke. This study found that moderately active patients had a lower percentage of classical and intermediate monocytes compared to non-active and highly active patients. In contrast, the percentage of non-classical monocytes increased in moderately active patients. These findings suggest that physical activity can be beneficial for patients by reducing the risk of ischemic stroke and promoting lesion healing.

Summary: This study analyzed data from the UK Biobank using wearable accelerometers and found a strong association between physical activity and lower disease risk. The association was particularly strong for cardiac, digestive, endocrine/metabolic, and respiratory conditions. In contrast, self-reported physical activity showed weaker associations with disease risk.

Summary: Different physical activity types have varying levels of cognitive, physical, and social demands. This study quantified these demands for 61 common activity types and created a formal Physical Activity Demand (PAD) typology. Three clusters of activities with low, moderate, and high non-metabolic demands were identified. This typology can be used to investigate the effects of different combinations of demands on health outcomes.

Summary: Using injury spotters and video footage review, this study aimed to examine the frequency and characteristics of head impacts during the FIFA Arab Cup 2021, as well as the subsequent medical assessment. The results showed that head impacts were common, with an average of 2 impacts per match, and 50% of them required on-pitch medical assessment. Head-to-head contact was the most common mechanism, but only 8% of the impacts showed video signs of potential concussion, and 3% resulted in a concussion substitution.

Summary: The study found that an increase in cardiorespiratory fitness is associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and all-cause hospital admission. Maintaining cardiorespiratory fitness is associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and all-cause admission, compared to a decline. Furthermore, increasing cardiorespiratory fitness further reduces the risk, especially for individuals with prior admission. Efforts to maintain or improve cardiorespiratory fitness should be included in disease-preventive strategies, and it can lead to reduced healthcare utilization and costs.

Summary: The study found a gap between the stated importance and actual clinical work in promoting healthy lifestyle habits among healthcare professionals. Tobacco cessation was considered the most important behavior change and received more attention in clinical work compared to promoting physical activity, healthy eating habits, and limiting alcohol use. The clinical work was mainly influenced by the clarity of organizational routines and objectives perceived by healthcare professionals.
