The microquasar 1E1740.7-2942, also known as the Great Annihilator, was observed by NuSTAR in the summer of 2012. We have analyzed in detail two observations taken similar to 2 weeks apart, for which we measure hard and smooth spectra typical of the low/hard state. A few weeks later the source flux declined significantly. Nearly simultaneous coverage by INTEGRAL is available from its Galactic Center monitoring campaign lasting similar to 2.5 months. These data probe the hard state spectrum from 1E1740.7-2942 before the flux decline. We find good agreement between the spectra taken with IBIS/ISGRI and NuSTAR, with the measurements being compatible with a change in flux with no spectral variability. We present a detailed analysis of the NuSTAR spectral and timing data and upper limits for reflection of the high energy emission. We show that the high energy spectrum of this X-ray binary is well described by thermal Comptonization.

Summary: The launch of IXPE on December 9, 2021 has provided a new perspective in X-ray astronomy. In this study, we present the first observation results of GS 1826-238, a weakly magnetized neutron star, using IXPE on March 29-31, 2022. The upper limit of linear polarization degree (99.73% confidence level) is found to be 1.3% in the energy range of 2-8 keV. Coordinated observations with INTEGRAL and NICER were conducted simultaneously to constrain the geometry and inclination angle of GS 1826-238.

Summary: This study describes a search for electromagnetic (EM) counterparts to binary black hole (BBH) mergers detected by LIGO/Virgo in the accretion disks of active galactic nuclei (AGNs). Nine candidate EM counterparts were found, and it is expected that more candidates will be discovered in future observations. These candidate EM counterparts are of great importance for measuring cosmic expansion (H(0)) as an independent method.

Summary: We propose a new method based on information theory to determine the optimal number of bands required for accurate measurement of physical properties of galaxies. Using the COSMOS2020 catalog, we identify the most relevant bands for measuring physical properties of galaxies in a H20 and UVISTA-like survey. We find that certain bands provide the most information for redshift and stellar mass measurements, and a machine-learning model trained over extensive spectral coverage outperforms template fitting.

Summary: The Athena X-IFU is a high-resolution X-ray spectrometer that has been studied since 2015 for use in the Athena space X-ray Observatory. It uses Transition Edge Sensors (TES) to provide spatially resolved X-ray spectroscopy with a spectral resolution of 2.5 eV. The X-IFU will be provided by an international consortium led by France, The Netherlands, and Italy, with contributions from several other countries including the United States and Japan.

Summary: We report the first >99% confidence detection of X-ray polarization in BL Lacertae, which was observed during a recent X-ray/gamma-ray outburst. The X-ray data suggest that the IXPE energy band is at the crossover between the low- and high-frequency blazar emission humps. Significant variability and polarization were observed, and the relative contribution from each emission hump was determined. The findings support the dominance of synchrotron self-Compton emission over hadronic emission processes during the observed epochs.

Summary: In this study, X-ray spectropolarimetric analysis of the Seyfert galaxy NGC 4151 revealed a polarization degree of 4.9% ± 1.1% and an angle of 86° ± 7° in the 2-8 keV energy range. The analysis suggests that the polarization may be entirely due to reflection and that the hot corona of NGC 4151 has a slab-like geometry, possibly a wedge.

Summary: By studying the X-ray reflection from giant molecular clouds near the black hole Sagittarius A* (Sgr A), scientists have found evidence of past flaring activity. The observations show that the reflected X-ray emission is polarized, indicating that approximately 200 years ago, the X-ray luminosity of Sgr A* was similar to that of a Seyfert galaxy.

Summary: Recent joint observations with IXPE and XMMNewton of the soft.-repeater SGR 1806-20 revealed strong polarization in its X-ray emission, with the source found at an all-time low persistent flux level. The detection of probable polarization at 4-5 keV energy range suggests a resonance Compton scattering mechanism in the magnetosphere, similar to that proposed for another bright magnetar 4U 0142+61.

Summary: X Persei is a highly magnetized X-ray pulsar with a low luminosity and a period of 835 seconds. Observations with the IXPE revealed a strong dependency of the X-ray polarization signal on the pulsar's spin phase. The polarization degree varied from several to approximately 20% over the pulse, with a phase dependence resembling the pulse profile. The polarimetric data also implied a large angle between the rotation and magnetic dipole axes.

Long-exposure NuSTAR constraints on decaying dark matter in the Galactic halo

Summary: We present two complementary NuSTAR x-ray searches for keV-scale dark matter decaying to monoenergetic photons in the Milky Way halo. Finding no evidence of anomalous x-ray lines using either method, we set limits on the active-sterile mixing angle and sterile-neutrino masses. The first key result is that we strongly disfavor a 7-keV sterile neutrino decaying into a 3.5-keV photon, and the second is that we derive leading limits on sterile neutrinos with masses 15-18 keV and 25-40 keV, reaching or extending below the big bang nucleosynthesis limit. In combination with previous results, the parameter space for the neutrino minimal standard model is now nearly closed.
