The White Dwarfs of the Old, Solar-metallicity Open Star Cluster Messier 67: Properties and Progenitors*

Paul A. Canton, Kurtis A. Williams, Mukremin Kilic, Michael Bolte

Summary: The study focuses on determining white dwarf masses and their progenitor star masses in the M67 cluster, providing crucial observational data for understanding and interpreting white dwarf populations and evolution. It also establishes the white dwarfs' positions on the initial-final mass relation with average values consistent with previous research, aiding in more precise modeling of the Galactic star formation rate.

The Initial-Final Mass Relation for Hydrogen-deficient White Dwarfs*

Joseph W. Barnett, Kurtis A. Williams, A. Bedard, Michael Bolte

Summary: The research on the initial-final mass relation suggests a discrepancy between DA and non-DA white dwarfs, possibly due to enhanced mass loss during the final thermal pulse and renewed post-AGB evolution of the star.

The Rapid Rotation of the Strongly Magnetic Ultramassive White Dwarf EGGR 156

Kurtis A. Williams, J. J. Hermes, Zachary P. Vanderbosch

Summary: The distribution of white dwarf rotation periods is important for understanding angular momentum evolution and the remnants of double degenerate mergers. We discovered rapid rotation in the strongly magnetic white dwarf EGGR 156 based on its photometric variability, suggesting it is a remnant of a double degenerate merger. The rate of period change in rapidly-rotating, massive, magnetic white dwarfs can be detectable and may help constrain their structure and evolution.
