Summary: This study compared the survival outcomes of LH and OH in the treatment of HCC based on reconstructed time-to-event data from high-quality propensity-score matching studies. The results indicated that LH can improve RFS in patients with HCC undergoing minor hepatectomy, and may benefit long-term RFS in overall patients.

Summary: The study confirmed that dosing vitamin K alongside sorafenib can significantly enhance its anticancer effects against hepatocellular carcinoma, leading to improved objective response rate and progression-free survival time. Patients who received vitamin K in addition to sorafenib also showed significantly extended overall survival time, especially those who achieved complete or partial response.

Summary: This study investigated the association between sarcopenia and textbook outcome (TO) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. It found that sarcopenia is an independent predictor of TO and can influence long-term survival by affecting short-term postoperative outcomes. Nomogram models based on sarcopenia and TO were developed for survival prediction.

Summary: In patients with recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), both repeat hepatectomy (RH) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) are viable treatment options. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to compare the outcomes of patients undergoing RH versus RFA for recurrent HCC. The results showed that both treatments had comparable overall and disease-free survival rates, but patients undergoing RH were less likely to develop a second recurrence. However, RH was associated with higher overall and major morbidity rates. Despite this, repeat resection remains the preferred option due to its better disease control.

Summary: This study examined the effect of blood product transfusion on the prognosis of patients who underwent hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma. The results showed that transfusion groups had lower tumor recurrence rate and overall survival rate compared to non-transfusion groups. Red blood cell transfusion negatively impacts the recurrence and long-term survival of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Summary: The study developed a nomogram to estimate the risk of SPLD and long-term survival in HCC patients before hepatectomy. Independent preoperative predictors of SPLD were identified, including total bilirubin and albumin. The nomogram showed good performance in predicting both SPLD and overall survival, outperforming other existing algorithms.

Summary: This study compared the prognosis of spontaneously ruptured HCC (srHCC) with that of non-ruptured HCC (nrHCC). The results showed that patients with srHCC had a higher 5-year TTR but comparable 5-year OS to those with nrHCC after propensity score matching. Further analysis suggested that srHCC is not appropriate to be assigned as T4 stage in American Joint Committee on Cancer classification.

Summary: This study examines the impact of public insurance status on the survival outcomes of HCC patients after liver resection in China. The results show that underinsured HCC patients have worse survival outcomes after liver resection. This may be due to the limited access to care for underinsured patients, but further exploration is needed for conclusive evidence.

Summary: The study aimed to compare the impact of All-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA) plus FOLFOX4 with FOLFOX4 alone on advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with pulmonary metastasis. The results showed that ATRA plus FOLFOX4 significantly improved survival outcomes and had better overall survival rates compared to FOLFOX4 alone. The most common acute toxicities were leukocytopenia, fatigue, anorexia, and nausea, but there was no significant difference in adverse events between the two groups.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a deep learning prognostic prediction model by incorporating the maximal microvascular invasion (MVI) area as an additional factor to other independent risk factors for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients after R0 liver resection. The results showed that patients in the large-MVI group had worse overall survival (OS) compared to the small-MVI group. The deep learning model, based on independent risk factors including MVI stage, maximal MVI area, presence/absence of cirrhosis, and maximal tumor diameter, outperformed the traditional COX proportional hazards model in predicting OS.

Summary: Arsenite, a common neurotoxicant, affects neurological functions through mechanisms not fully understood. This study investigated the role of autophagy in arsenite neurotoxicity using beclin 1(+/+) and beclin 1(+/-) mice. The results showed that arsenite exposure caused cognitive impairment, anxiety-like behavior, and motor coordination disorder in beclin 1(+/+) mice, accompanied by morphological and electrophysiological changes in cortical tissues. Heterozygous disruption of beclin 1 attenuated these neurotoxic effects, suggesting that regulating autophagy through beclin 1 may be a potential therapeutic approach against arsenite neurotoxicity.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture compared to parecoxib sodium on postoperative pain, postoperative nausea and vomiting, and the Bruggemann Comfort Scale in patients following laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The results showed that the pain score in the acupuncture group was lower than the control group at 6 h and 9 h after the operation, and the number of patients requesting parecoxib sodium was also lower in the acupuncture group. The acupuncture group also had lower levels of postoperative nausea and vomiting at 6 h after the operation. Acupuncture may be a potential method for treating postoperative pain following laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Summary: This multicentric study aimed to investigate the impact of tumor location and size on the difficulty of Laparoscopic- Left Hepatectomy (L- LH). The study found that tumors larger than 40 mm in diameter and located in PS Segment 4a were associated with the highest degree of technical difficulty. However, post-operative outcomes were not significantly different compared to smaller tumors or tumors located in other segments.

Summary: The definition of early recurrence for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains controversial. This study aimed to identify the early recurrence time for HCC and evaluate the efficacy of postoperative adjuvant TACE for HCC with MVI within this interval. The results showed that 13 months may be a reasonable early recurrence time point for HCC patients with MVI who underwent R0 resection, and within this interval, adjuvant TACE may result in longer survival.
