Summary: The effect of nanosized CoTiO3 additive on the desorption behavior of LiAlH4 was investigated for the first time in this study. The addition of CoTiO3 improved the desorption behavior of LiAlH4, reducing the desorption temperature and increasing the desorption rate. The experimental results suggest that the CoTiO3 additive promoted notable advancements in the desorption performance of LiAlH4 through the in situ-formed active species.

Summary: Ball milling Mg-based alloys with transition metal compounds enhances their hydrogen storage performances. In this experiment, La1.7Y0.3Mg16Ni + x wt.% TiF3 (x = 0-10) alloys were prepared using mechanical milling technology. XRD, SEM, HRTEM, and granulometry were used to analyze the composition and microstructure. The addition of TiF3 improves the crystallinity, reduces particle and crystallite sizes, and enhances hydriding and dehydriding kinetics. Adding 7 wt% TiF3 decreases the dehydrogenation activation energy and improves the hydrogen absorption rate at low temperatures.

Summary: TiB2 was introduced by ball milling to improve the decomposition performance of AlH3, forming Al-Ti-B solid solution through reaction. The AlH3 + 2.5 wt% TiB2 ball milled at 225 rpm for 108 min showed the best decomposition performance, starting decomposition at 78°C and stopping at 130°C with 8.5 wt% hydrogen released. This study provides an efficient strategy to achieve high hydrogen capacity and low decomposition temperature of metastable AlH3 through proper ball milling with metal borides.

Summary: Hydrolysis of LiAlH4 is a promising way to produce hydrogen at low temperatures, and an anti-icing aqueous solution is necessary. In this study, an optimized solution containing 27.1% KOH and 30.0% ethylene glycol was found to achieve full and controllable hydrolysis kinetics of LiAlH4 at -40 to 0 degrees C. The effects of compactness, mass, and temperature on the hydrolysis were investigated, and it was observed that the reaction followed the shrinking core model controlled by liquid film diffusion.

Summary: This study developed a method to improve the hydrogen properties of lithium aluminum hydride by encapsulating it in a titanium shell. The core-shell nanostructures obtained showed a significant improvement in dehydrogenation temperatures and desorption kinetics. However, there was some loss of hydrogen reversibility due to the loss of the core-shell structure during hydrogen cycling.

Summary: LiAlH4 and NaAlH4 are hindered by the lack of hydrogen reversibility and poor kinetics. Nanosizing has been suggested as a solution, but the synthesis of alanate nanoparticles has not been explored. In this study, a solvent evaporation method utilizing surfactants as stabilizers was used to assemble alanate nanoparticles, and the roles of surfactants in controlling particle size and morphology were determined.

Summary: This study focuses on the catalytic effect of TiF3 on the hydrogen storage properties of the MgH2-Na3AlH6-LiBH4 system produced by ball milling. The addition of TiF3 catalyst results in a faster hydrogen uptake and release rate compared to the catalyst-free system. The apparent activation energy for the dissociation of Li3AlH6, MgH2, and NaBH4 in the TiF3-doped composite is significantly reduced. TiF3's catalytic performance is attributed to the in-situ production of Al-Ti and Al-F phases during the dehydrogenation process.

Summary: This study investigates the improvement of hydrogen storage properties of MgH2 by using activated carbon as a catalyst in MgH2-AC nanocomposites. The results show that the presence of activated carbon helps reduce oxygen in MgO phase, leading to significantly enhanced absorption capacity and kinetics in the MgH2-AC nanocomposites. The nanocomposites also exhibit high hydrogenation properties with the presence of beta- and gamma-phases of MgH2, as supported by XRD data.

Summary: The study demonstrates a new approach to thermodynamically stabilizing metastable metal hydrides by coordinating them with nitrogen binding sites within nanopores. This allows for low-temperature hydrogen release and regeneration of LiAlH4 at high pressure, with a predicted decrease in Al-H bond dissociation energy. Additionally, solid-state reversibility is achieved through a combination of nanoconfinement effects, Li adatom formation, and charge redistribution between the metal hydride and the host.

Summary: Extensive research has revealed that oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline conditions involves dynamic surface restructuring. The development and design of sulfide/oxide pre-catalysts can reasonably adjust the composition and structure after surface reconstruction, which is crucial for OER. This study utilized a simple two-step hydrothermal method to achieve in situ S leaching and doping, inducing the composition change and structure reconstruction of CoFe oxides. The transformed FeOOH and CoOOH exhibited excellent OER activity and could be easily mass-produced using low-cost iron based materials and simple methods.

Summary: Zero-dimensional organic-inorganic metal halides (OMHs) are gaining attention in the fabrication of light-emitting diodes due to their broad emission band and high photoluminescence quantum yield. This work synthesized a zero-dimensional organic tetraphenylphosphonium bismuth chloride (TBC) that showed efficient blue light emission, with the emission mechanism attributed to the transition of Bi3+ ions. White light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) were fabricated using TBC, along with green-emitting and red-emitting single crystals, achieving single-component white emissions. These findings demonstrate the different emission mechanism of ns2 ions-based OMHs and highlight the potential of bismuth-based OMHs in WLEDs applications.

Summary: The revolutionary design concept of high-entropy alloys has brought new opportunities and challenges to the development of advanced metal materials. In this work, AlCrCuFe2NiTix high-entropy flux cored wires were prepared by combining the design idea of a high-entropy alloy with the characteristics of flux cored wire. AlCr-CuFe2NiTix high-entropy surfacing alloys were prepared using gas metal arc welding technology. The wear properties of the alloys were analyzed, and the phase composition, microstructure, strengthening mechanism, and wear mechanism were discussed. The results show that the alloys exhibit a dendritic microstructure with BCC/B2 + FCC phases. Increasing Ti content leads to the precipitation of Laves phase. The alloys show improved microhardness and wear resistance due to the precipitation of coherent B2 and Laves phases. However, excessive Ti addition results in the increase of Laves phase and reduced wear resistance of the alloys.

Summary: In this study, six bimetallic FeCo particles were synthesized via the hydrothermal method at different Fe:Co ratios. The Fe:Co ratio not only modulates the composition of the particles but also influences their structure and magnetic properties. The FeCo alloys showed a transformation from an Fe-based structure to a Co-based structure with increasing Co content. The Fe:Co ratio of 1:1 and 3:1 resulted in particles with the highest and lowest saturation magnetization, respectively.

The Y-Ti-Ta-O nano-oxides were found to be mainly Y2(Ti,Ta)2O7, with an average size of 7 nm and a number density of 6.8 x 1023 m-3. Excess boron was found to enhance the adhesion of some low-sigma grain boundaries but weaken the Fe/Y2Ti2O7 interface, while excess tantalum enhanced the Fe/Y2Ti2O7 interface but caused serious degradation of grain boundaries.

The use of a refined approach involving co-sputtering metal alloys and oxide targets has demonstrated the feasibility of nano-columnar structures in perovskite-based electrodes, expanding the temperature range of thin film electrodes. This study systematically examines the effects of chamber pressure control in the co-sputtering process and identifies the intricate relationship between sputtering pressure and film structure. By fine-tuning the columnar growth in the electrode, significant improvements in performance and thermo-mechanical properties were achieved, resulting in high-performance all-sputtered solid oxide fuel cells.
