Summary: This study examines how specific medical procedures may affect treatment effect estimation in propensity score-adjusted comparative studies and proposes a solution. The analysis shows that excluding the immediate pre-exposure time can reduce the risk of including potential instrumental variables and bias in the study.

Summary: The study found that laparoscopic appendicectomy for pregnancy appendicitis was associated with shorter hospital stays and lower wound infection rates compared to open appendicectomy. However, there was a higher incidence of fetal loss following laparoscopy, highlighting the need for caution and informed consent regarding the risks and benefits of laparoscopic surgery.

Summary: The study evaluated the performance of high-dimensional propensity scores (hdPSs) in surgical comparative effectiveness studies, finding them to be more accurate and balanced compared to traditional propensity scores (PSs). Results showed that hdPS estimates were more consistent with results seen in randomized controlled trials, indicating hdPSs as a promising alternative for controlling indication bias in comparative studies of surgical procedures.

Summary: This study compared the short-term surgical and oncologic outcomes of laparoscopic versus open gastrectomy for locally advanced gastric cancer. The results showed that laparoscopic gastrectomy with D2 lymphadenectomy is a safe and feasible option with comparable oncological outcomes to traditional open surgery.

Summary: This study compared surgical and obstetrical outcomes between laparoscopic and open appendectomy in pregnant patients. The laparoscopic approach resulted in a shorter length of stay, with no significant differences in complications, 30-day readmission rate, or obstetrical outcomes between the two surgical approaches.

Summary: Comparative study between laparoscopic appendectomy and open appendectomy in pregnant women showed that laparoscopic surgery had shorter operative time and hospital length of stay, while obstetrical outcomes were similar between the two approaches. These findings support the use of laparoscopic appendectomy for acute appendicitis during pregnancy.

Summary: LRH showed significantly less intraoperative blood loss, lower rate of hepatic inflow occlusion, and shorter postoperative hospital stay compared to ORH. The two groups had similar operation time, blood transfusion rate, and postoperative complications, but LRH group had significantly lower inflammation-based markers. In the meta-analysis, LRH also had shorter hospital stay, less blood loss, and lower rate of major postoperative complications than ORH.

Summary: This study compared postoperative outcomes of laparoscopic and open appendectomies for acute appendicitis in children under widespread use of laparoscopic surgery. Results showed that there were no significant differences in postoperative complications and length of hospital stay between pediatric patients who underwent laparoscopic or open appendectomy, regardless of complicated or uncomplicated appendicitis cases.

Summary: This study compared the differences between laparoscopic and open surgery in terms of wound infection rates and recovery outcomes. The results showed that laparoscopic surgery outperformed open surgery in terms of operative time, blood loss, hospital stay, and postoperative pain management. The study highlighted the potential of laparoscopic surgery for specific surgical interventions and emphasized the importance of personalized surgical strategy decision-making.

Summary: The study compared laparoscopic and open surgery for the treatment of perforated peptic ulcers. The results showed that laparoscopic surgery had significant advantages in terms of operative time, length of hospital stay, and postoperative complications, with comparable mortality rates. Therefore, laparoscopic suturing of perforated peptic ulcers is a safe technique that can provide significant benefits for patients.
