Summary: By comparing the effects of triggering with 1,500 IU of hCG plus 450 IU of FSH with the standard hCG trigger dose, it was found that the alternative trigger was noninferior in terms of oocyte competence. Women triggered with 1,500 IU of hCG plus 450 IU of FSH achieved similar success rates in in vitro fertilization as those triggered with the standard dose of hCG, but further research is still needed.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the distribution data of oocyte retrieval rate (ORR) in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) undergoing in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF/ICSI) and explore the risk factors for low ORR. The results showed that low estradiol levels/follicles (≥12 mm), progesterone levels, and the use of progestin-primed protocol were significant risk factors for low ORR.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze and compare the expression of peptides in the follicular fluid of PCOS patients and normal women using peptidomics techniques. The results showed that there were various differentially-expressed peptides in the follicular fluid of PCOS patients compared to normal women, and some of these peptides were located in the functional domains of their corresponding precursor proteins. These findings provide new insights for further understanding the pathological mechanisms of PCOS development.

Summary: This study explored the impact of using GnRHa trigger combined with different doses of hCG on oocyte maturity and cumulative live birth in high responders. The results showed that the use of low-dose hCG combined with GnRHa trigger did not improve oocyte maturity and embryo quality, and was still associated with an increased risk of moderate to severe OHSS.

Summary: This study investigated the lipidomic profiles in follicular fluid (FF) of different phenotypes of Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and identified metabolic signatures and candidate biomarkers that provide a better understanding of the pathogenesis of PCOS.

Summary: The study found that follicular extracellular vesicles (EVs) of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients interfere with the quality of oocytes, leading to abnormal development and maturation. PCOS-EVs cause abnormal distribution of mitochondria and spindles in oocytes, inhibiting oocyte maturation. Moreover, oxidative stress induced by PCOS-EVs may be a potential cause.

Summary: The quality of in vitro matured oocytes is usually lower than that of in vivo matured oocytes, possibly due to the absence of some important signal regulators in vitro. In this study, we found that progesterone and androstenedione were upregulated in the follicular fluid (FF) during in vivo pig oocyte maturation. The supplementation of progesterone or androstenedione during in vitro maturation significantly improved the pig oocyte maturation rate and subsequent embryo developmental competence.

Summary: Radiation therapy can lead to reduced ovarian function and depletion of primordial follicles. Studies using mouse models suggest that high doses of radiation cause severe damage to the ovary, while low doses have minimal effect. However, research on the effects of radiation on the ovarian microenvironment is still limited and requires further investigation.

Summary: This study identified the metabolic pathways and metabolites in the serum and follicular fluid that are associated with peak estradiol levels and the number of mature oocytes. The serum metabolome mainly involves fatty acid and amino acid pathways, while the follicular fluid metabolome mainly involves lipid, vitamin, and hormone pathways. These findings provide insights into the biological mechanisms underlying follicular and oocyte development.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of age and FSH treatment on the ovarian response, follicular fluid (FF) biochemical composition, nuclear maturation, and molecular profile of cumulus-oocytes complexes (COCs) recovered from prepubertal gilts. The results showed that FSH treatment improved the percentage of medium follicles, the number of grade I COCs obtained from medium follicles, as well as the meiotic maturation and BCB+ rates. Age had no effect on the transcript abundance of the target genes in immature COCs. Therefore, FSH treatment may be a feasible strategy to improve oocyte quantity, quality, and nuclear maturation in prepubertal gilts.

Summary: This study focused on the relationship between basal lipid metabolism and ART outcomes in women with PCOS undergoing unstimulated natural cycles. The results showed that high levels of lipid metabolic parameters were associated with increased number of oocytes retrieved, and obesity was closely associated with impaired oocyte maturation quality and developmental potential as well as poor live birth outcomes.

Summary: Frequent consumption of diet drinks, specifically those with aspartame, is associated with negative effects on fertility, including oocyte dysmorphism and decreased embryo quality. Aspartame consumption leads to disrupted estrus cycle, reduced anti-Mullerian hormone level, increased oxidative stress in the ovaries, and decline in mitochondrial function, which affects follicle preservation and steroidogenesis in granulosa cells.

Summary: The levels of nitrite and nitrate in follicular fluid were found to be related to the yield of MII oocytes, and nitrate levels showed a suggestive inverse correlation with embryos with high potential of implantation. This suggests that nitrite and nitrate concentrations in follicular fluid may be useful in predicting ovarian response and embryo implantation potential.
