Summary: This study observed the prevalence of loss of function gene variants of CYP2C19 (*2, *3) in 60 patients undergoing PCI, and found that 52% of patients carried these gene mutations. Among them, 37% were intermediate metabolizers and 15% were poor metabolizers. No major ischemic event was reported during the follow-up of these 52 patients. The findings suggest that intermediate metabolizers with one copy of the CYP2C19 gene can overcome genetic deficiency and achieve similar effectiveness with a regimen of clopidogrel 75 mg BD compared to ticagrelor 90 mg BD.

Summary: This study presents the clinical experience of patients with Blau syndrome (BS) at a tertiary care centre in Chandigarh, North India. BS is a rare autoinflammatory disease characterized by arthritis, dermatitis, and granulomatous uveitis in early childhood. The study found that uveitis is often progressive and refractory to currently available therapies, and systemic involvement remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality.

Summary: We evaluated the response, efficacy, and safety of a generic form of romiplostim manufactured in India for treating children with persistent/chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). The study showed that the generic romiplostim is well tolerated and efficacious in children with persistent/chronic ITP.

Summary: In this study, the rates of carbapenem resistance and the prevalence of different carbapenemases in different bacteria were investigated in a north-Indian tertiary care hospital. The study compared the Pre-COVID period (August to October 2019) with the COVID period (January to February 2021). It was found that the overall carbapenem resistance rate increased from 23% to 41% during the COVID period, with Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumoniae showing significant increase. The most common genotypes detected were OXA-48, NDM, and co-expression of NDM and OXA-48.

Summary: This study investigated the clinical characteristics and outcomes of COVID-19 patients at a tertiary care center in northern India, finding that most patients were young and asymptomatic, while those with comorbidities were more vulnerable to complications. The triaged classification of patients and protocol-based treatment led to good outcomes and low case fatality.

Summary: POCT for influenza has high sensitivity and specificity, reducing incidence of hospital-acquired influenza and admission rates compared to laboratory testing. This method may be a feasible strategy for testing patients during peak influenza seasons, benefiting clinical management in emergency departments.

Summary: Antimicrobial resistance remains a significant public health issue, largely due to misuse of antimicrobials. This study in a tertiary care teaching hospital in Malaysia investigated trends and compliance of antimicrobial prescribing, finding that ICU had the highest prevalence of antimicrobial use, with many prescriptions being empirically prescribed for pneumonia. The study also highlighted the need to improve documentation of review/stop date recorded and surgical prophylaxis prescribing practices.

Summary: The study explored antimicrobial resistance patterns in a tertiary health care facility in Southern India based on the WHO Priority Pathogens List. E. coli was the most common organism isolated, accounting for 37%. However, the resistance trends and prevalence patterns in the study setting did not fully align with the WHO PPL document, highlighting the need to acknowledge local priority differences in guiding local policies and practices.

Summary: A cross-sectional study of 664 subjects found a higher proportion of vitamin D insufficiency in females, who also had lower serum vitamin D levels and higher TSH values compared to males. The TSH levels in the vitamin D sufficiency group were significantly lower, and age was the only significant predictor of TSH levels. However, no predictor was identified for vitamin D levels. Additional studies are needed to determine the role of vitamin D in regulating thyroid hormones, especially considering the thyroid autoimmune status of individuals.

Summary: Paratesticular tumors (PTT) exhibit a wide clinicopathological spectrum, with benign PTTs being more common than malignant PTTs. Meticulous grossing and histopathological examination, supplemented by IHC, are essential for an accurate diagnosis of this heterogeneous group of tumors, influencing the role of adjuvant therapy and patient prognosis.

Summary: A study in India evaluated pulmonary function in perinatally HIV-infected children, revealing that most children have normal lung function, with a minority showing mild to moderate obstruction or restriction. The research found complex associations between spirometric parameters and CD4 count, viral load, and opportunistic infections in this population. Further studies, including longitudinal research, are needed to better understand these intricacies and improve management strategies.
