Summary: Compared to adults, severe or fatal COVID-19 disease is less common in children, but infants have a higher risk of progression. Various severity scores for pediatric COVID-19 have been reported, but a unique clinical score should be designed for neonates and infants.

Summary: Seasonal variations in food availability impact women's dietary diversity but not that of children, suggesting factors beyond food availability influence the quality of children's diets. Increases in dietary diversity of women in November were associated with higher education and household food security, while nutrient intakes of iron, calcium, and vitamin E were significantly higher during this season. Integrated interventions are recommended to address seasonal food insecurity and enhance resilience against seasonal declines in diet quality.

Summary: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the main cause of bacterial infection in infants under 3 months old with fever without a source. In this study, the characteristics of febrile infants with UTI in the emergency department were analyzed, and risk factors for invasive bacterial infection (IBI) secondary to UTI were identified.

Summary: This study assessed the prevalence of early initiation of breastfeeding (EIBF) and associated factors among mothers with children under 2 years old in Ethiopia. The study found that place of delivery, mode of delivery, postnatal check-up, type of birth, birth order and region were significantly associated with EIBF.

Summary: This study evaluated the outcomes of pregnancies conceived within six months after a first trimester D&C. The findings suggest that watchful waiting or medical treatment after a first trimester missed abortion pose no more risks to subsequent pregnancies than D&C.

Summary: This study investigated pathogens, antibiotic resistance, and the change in incidence of neonatal and young infant meningitis in Hong Kong. The results showed that Group B Streptococcus and Escherichia coli were the most common bacterial pathogens, with a decrease in early-onset GBS meningitis rates attributed to universal screening and intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis. Antimicrobial-resistant bacterial strains causing meningitis require further attention in clinical and public health settings.

Summary: The study identified clinical and laboratory indicators of KD in febrile infants aged less than three months. Patients with KD were older, had prolonged fever duration, higher CRP levels, and platelet counts compared to those with bacterial or non-bacterial infections. Recognition of these characteristics is crucial for the early diagnosis and management of KD in young febrile infants.

Summary: The objective of this systematic review was to examine the effects of routinely administering antibiotics to infants under 6 months of age with growth failure/faltering. However, the literature search yielded no eligible studies to address this question. Future studies with sufficient sample sizes are needed to evaluate the potential risks and benefits of antibiotics in malnourished infants under 6 months of age.

Summary: This study investigated the folate and vitamin B12 levels in 79 French-Canadian pregnant women at different stages of pregnancy. It was found that the intake of folate and vitamin B12 in the diet was associated with the concentration of these biomarkers in the blood. The serum total folate concentrations were generally high, while the vitamin B12 concentrations were influenced by the body mass index of the pregnant women.

Summary: This study examined the incidence and risk factors of COVID-19 among infants under 6 months of age. The results showed that 1.0% of infants whose mothers received prenatal care had medically attended COVID-19 episodes. Infants born to women with postpartum COVID-19 had a higher risk, highlighting the importance of COVID-19 prevention measures for the household members and caregivers of infants.

Summary: This study examined rates and predictors of 7-day readmission in infants hospitalized before 3 months of age with infectious and non-infectious conditions. The results showed that younger age, shorter index hospitalizations, younger maternal age, and multi-gravidity were all risk factors for readmission within 7 days.

Summary: Patient selection is crucial for spine SBRT due to potential adverse effects and costs. The study identified prognostic factors related to survival outcomes, including nonbreast/prostate primaries, ECOG score>=2, polymetastatic disease, painful lesions, and paraspinal disease. Fractionated spine SBRT was found to have a low risk of late serious adverse events.

Summary: This study proposes a method to improve the user experience of a telemedicine service for heart failure patients by combining remote visits and telemonitoring with wearable sensors. The method involves training medical personnel and patients and evaluating the usability of the platform through questionnaires. Results showed high levels of satisfaction and usability for both patients and clinicians, confirming the effectiveness of the proposed method.
