Summary: Chert samples from different coastal and inland outcrops in the Eastern Asturias (Spain) were mineralogically investigated for the first time for archaeological purposes. Quartz crystallite size could potentially be used for dating chert-tools recovered from archaeological sites, but cannot distinguish coastal and inland chert outcrops.

Summary: A study was conducted to evaluate the microstructure and crystallography of Cr2O3-doped UO2 fabricated in a temperature range of 1150-1750 degrees C under reducing conditions. The results showed that an increase in Cr2O3 concentration led to larger grain size and lower lattice parameter in the fcc phase. Additionally, the Cr2O3-doped samples exhibited higher crystallinity compared to undoped UO2 samples as indicated by increased crystallite size and decreased microstrain with larger grain size.

Summary: An equiatomic CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloy (HEA) was prepared by gas atomization process. High-energy milling was conducted to investigate the effects of milling parameters on the morphology and crystallographic properties of HEA powders. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy were used for phase identification and morphology observation of the milled powders. Both atomized and milled powders exhibited a single-phase face-centered cubic solid solution. The crystallite size (CS) decreased from 39.7 to 6.56 nm and the lattice strain (LS) increased from 0.25%-1.48% with increasing milling time from 0 to 240 min. Furthermore, an artificial neural network (ANN) approach provided accurate predictions of CS and LS with accuracies of 96.25% and 93.43%, respectively.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of five different defects on a single strut, with undersizing/oversizing being the primary factor affecting the discrepancy between experiments and numerical predictions. Diameter variation and offset of the cross section were dominant for small struts, while the presence of voids had a negligible impact on elastic and initial yielding responses. Geometrical inaccuracies and varied properties had comparable effects, with the former being more dominant in smaller samples. The sensitivity from the mCT voxel size affected both global behaviors and localization.

Summary: This paper focuses on the isostatically-moulded synthetic polygranular graphites with porosities ranging from 8% to 18%, examining the lattice parameters and microstructure changes at different temperatures. The study reveals that the variations with temperature of lattice parameters, coherence length, and microstrain are related to the relative strength of bonds in-plane and normal to the graphene layers.

Summary: This paper presents the basic data on primary and secondary chert deposits in the Croatian part of the Istrian Peninsula, as well as the visual and mechanical characteristics of the collected samples and the micro-petrographic characteristics determined using a binocular polarizing microscope. The study also addresses terminological issues in archaeological literature and discusses the possibility of identifying the raw material from different deposits on the Peninsula. It also records artifacts and cores found on some of the surveyed chert deposits.

Summary: Phase-homogeneous LiFePO4 powders with less than 0.1% impurity crystalline phases were synthesized, as confirmed by SXRD. XRD was used to determine anisotropic crystallite sizes, L-V[hkl]. The use of a low resistance covering layer containing mechanically strong ferric-graphite-graphene composite with impregnated Fe3+ particles < 10 nm in size improves cycleability compared to industrial cathodes.
