Summary: Protein aggregation is associated with various human diseases and reduces its suitability for industrial use due to reduced biological activity. The aggregation of proteins depends on the physicochemical properties of the environment. Study found that bromophenol blue dye induces amorphous aggregation of insulin protein at pH 2.0 but not at pH 7.4.

Summary: Biosorption using a chitosan-pectinase blend (CPB) was studied for the removal of methylene blue (MB) dye from synthetic solutions. The blend showed a rough surface morphology and amorphous nature. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) analysis confirmed the successful blend formation. Maximum adsorption was achieved at pH 7.0, 30°C, 30 min contact time, and an adsorbent dosage of 2.5 g/L. The pseudo-second-order model provided the best fit, with the highest R2 value close to 1. The Temkin isotherm model showed the highest adsorption capacity at 16.81 mg/g. The blend demonstrated good desorption ability, allowing for reuse in dye removal.

Summary: In this study, GP and GTA geopolymeric materials were prepared and characterized. The compounds showed high adsorption capacity and photocatalytic activity for the degradation of MB dye. The incorporation of ZnTiO3/TiO2 in the geopolymeric matrix allowed GTA to achieve higher overall efficiency compared to GP, combining adsorption and photocatalysis. The synthesized compounds could be used for multiple cycles for the removal of MB from wastewater.

Summary: The lignin sample extracted from Eucalyptus grandis sawdust was utilized as an adsorbent for the removal of methylene blue from aqueous solutions. The adsorption data fit well with the Langmuir model and the pseudo-second order model, indicating spontaneous removal of MB by lignin involving physisorption mechanisms. This study highlights the potential use of lignin as an effective adsorbent for cationic dyes, including MB, with possible recycling and reusing cycles without significant loss of properties.

Summary: This study successfully separated fractionated lignin (L2) with more hydroxyl and carboxyl groups from black liquor using a simple sequential acid precipitation method, and then prepared high-efficiency and low-cost fractionated lignin-based magnetic nanoparticles (L2-MNPs) adsorbent by introducing L2 onto the surface of magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles (MNPs). The experimental results showed that L2-MNPs had a high adsorption capacity for methylene blue (MB) dye in wastewater, making it an environmentally friendly, cost-effective, and recyclable adsorbent.

Summary: The corrosion behavior of Fe-60 and Fe-83 ribbons in 0.6 M NaCl was studied. Fe-60 exhibited a local corrosion mode and formed a stable passivation film with higher corrosion resistance, while Fe-83 showed a combination of local and global corrosion modes and had lower corrosion resistance. Controlling the precipitation of nanocrystalline phases and increasing the POx content in the passivation film significantly improved the corrosion resistance of Fe-based glassy alloys.

Summary: In the study of BM-SCO and HSCO thin films, it was found that H vacancies tend to prefer sites near the external surface or oxygen vacancy channels (OVCs), while H interstitials prefer sites of oxygen on a layer that contains six-fold coordinated Co. These findings not only enrich the understanding of complex surface phenomena of defect formation but also provide an explanation for the reversibility during phase transformation.

Summary: This study explores the potential of biphenylene as a nanocarrier for the delivery of the anticancer drug cisplatin. It is found that biphenylene offers physical stability, rapid release rate, solubility, and bio-compatibilities compared to other nanocarriers. The adsorption of cisplatin on the surface of biphenylene involves charge transfer from cisplatin to biphenylene. The drug is shown to be released at body temperature in an acidic environment. Biphenylene also exhibits excellent cytotoxicity activity and cellular uptake of the drug. Overall, biphenylene shows promise as a potential nanocarrier for cisplatin delivery.
