Summary: The aim of this study was to synthesize 16 complexes of Co (II), Ni (II), Cu (II), and Zn (II) metal ions from heterocyclic hydrazone ligands and evaluate their antimicrobial activity. Various physicochemical and spectroscopic techniques were used to characterize the synthesized compounds, which showed octahedral geometry and good thermal stability. The compounds were tested against bacterial and fungal pathogens, and complex 16 was found to be most active against B. subtilis, while complexes 13, 14, and 15 were most efficient against C. albicans. Computational studies further demonstrated the biological efficacy of the ligand and its complexes.

Summary: A new quinolylanthrahydrazone ligand, 9-AQH, was synthesized and used to prepare four metal complexes, among which the copper(I) complex showed significant anticancer activity and catalytic ability to generate free radicals. The potential redox property between Cu(I)/Cu(II) and the induction of cell apoptosis through mitochondrial pathway were considered as key factors in the observed anticancer activity. Further investigation is needed to explore the intrinsic correlation between autophagy and the anticancer mechanism of the copper(I) complex.

Summary: Merging isatin and arylhydrazone moieties is an efficient strategy to obtain new potential anticancer derivatives. Fourteen hydrazone-isatin derivatives were synthesized and evaluated for their antiproliferative activity against the NCI-60 cancer cell line panel. Compound VIIIb was found to inhibit the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and possess drug-likeness properties, leading to decreased cell population in the G2/M phase and increased apoptosis, confirming its potential as a new proapoptotic compound.

Summary: The manuscript presents eight novel derivatives of 1,2,4-triazine and 1,2-diazino compounds with the 5-nitro isatin group. Antiradical and anticancer activities of these compounds were evaluated against breast cancer (MCF-7) cell lines using the DPPH method and the MTT assay. Compound 9 (1,2,4-triazine-3-thione) showed the strongest antioxidant and anticancer properties after 24 hours, while compound 7 (1,2,4-triazine-3-ol) exhibited good anticancer activity after 48 hours, and compound 11 (1,2-diazino) after 72 hours.

Summary: Coumarin hydrazone derivatives were synthesized by Knoevenagel condensation and used to prepare half-sandwich transition metal complexes. The structures of the complexes were confirmed by spectroscopic analysis and X-ray crystallography. Some of the complexes showed stability in solution and nonhygroscopic properties. Among them, two complexes demonstrated significant antibacterial and cytotoxic activities.

Summary: In this study, compound PS9 was identified as a potent and selective inhibitor of bacterial MetAPs. It exhibited antibacterial potential against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains, and showed synergistic effects when combined with ampicillin and ciprofloxacin. PS9 also inhibited the growth of multidrug-resistant environmental isolates and showed no significant cytotoxic effect on human cells. The study suggests that PS9 could be a useful candidate for the development of antibacterial alternatives.
